Urticaria

Post by Nandana T. Pai »

Dear Group,

Today morning i had a case of General urticaria ie general oedema with
swelling of even face whole face and above the eyes marked but the lips
are not swelled. whole body is swelled so no small wheals are seen. The
whole body is hot to touch but it is not fever. As she is very dark the
redness is not evident. The symptoms stated yesterday afternoon after
she dressed up for a occasion for which he wore a bangle and also used
perfume she usualy uses and had also applied some creams but expect the
bangle all are usual. but till she sleep i night all was ok there was
only tolerable itching with small wheals where she itched but by morning
she was swelled up and buy morning she has slight talking difficulty and
heaviness in lungs. This was the final presentation when she came. As i
am a beginner my knees where trembling seing the chest symptoms. I gave
her apis 30 one dose to take in repeated dose and if no relief to go to
hospital.
Though medicine's like

Like Histamine
Utica urines, rhus tox etc had come i gave apis because i have not hear
any clinical experience of these medicine.

What else could have being given ? Any experience in this condition.
Has any body given medicine any condition like this and what was given

By the way this is the dominating lady ("X") i had mentioned in my last
letter. I was thinking to give her Lyco as her chronic medicine. And
this acute complaint jumped up will lyco cover this tendency as now a
days she has this itching when she wears or eats some fish or food but
not always does she get this with that food or thing. She has no
children due to some uterine problem which she has not told exactly as
she believe that she is not for the treatment of that condition. She has
frequency of urination with burning if she had to hold it. She has right
shoulder pain, back pain and also heel pain in first motion which is
worst in the morning but in day time also she has to limp a few steps if
she sits in a chair or stool etc without wearing a foot ware. Most
interesting of her condition in past history is that once for a small
period of time she used to urinate white urine like milk the doctors in
the hospital where not able to diagnose she says ( her brother from 3-12
yrs used to have a similar condition and it was told as urinary infection )

Any why i will like to hear the experiences of urticaria cures.

You mention fish.
Shellfish is a common allergy that can produce hives and
anaphylactic shock, a medical emergency.

Low thyroid can predispose to urticaria. Urticaria can be one
early symptom of low thyroid, showing up even 5 yrs before dx.

Perfume if not usual PLUS any shellfish could be an
especially bad combination.

No doubt Apis will work wonders. In any chance, If you couldn't get relief with Apis, you may think of Fumaria and Saponaria along with Urticaria Urens all in below 6c.

I had a new case in today. resenting complaint is an urticaria which appears around 11 a.m. and recedes at around 3 p.m. most days She has had it for 5 weeks with no particular aetiology. It is a blotchy red rash, very itchy, hot and can look like cottage cheese- bubbly she called it. It is on her arms and legs including the hands and feet but not on the torso. It has appeared on her buttocks and once on her face. We tried a cold pack which she didn't like because she is a chilly person who loves the sun so we tried a warm pack which she preferred. "It makes me feel horrible , grubby and I want to wash. It is as if there is something on the inside trying to get out. Her doctor called it hives and prescribed Piriton , an antihistamine, which makes her tired. She lost her dad 12 months ago which was a big shock to her. She couldn't eat for a number of weeks but appears to have got over the grief now.

Do you think I should be looking at this as an acute or chronic complaint?

BTW- she has just had - 4 days ago - lots of vaccinations as she is going abroad in 3 weeks. She also has been told she has to take allopathic malaria prophylaxis. Although I have Dr Banerjea's suggestions for prophylaxis I have to say I am not confident about prescribing it and she hadn't come to see me for that!!

Any suggestions, comments, will be very welcome.

Rochelle -- do you have a timeline before or simultaneous to the appearance
of the urticaria -- trying to figure out what might have been the cause, as
a help in determining acute or chronic... Rosemary

Dear Rosemary,

The only thing she came up with was the death of her father, then her Mum
has had a hip replacement. She is the main carer for her mum in that she
organises everything for her and takes her places since her dad died. "It's
a pressure that I have to cope with. I have to think about her now. It's
like another child (she has 4) but I've always been the type of person who
will do anything for anyone. (Carc did cross my mind!!) With joining the
U3A (a group devoted to intelligent elderly) her life will change within the
next 12 months as she will be going on trips and things with them. I've
still got my Dad's ashes and want to put them in my garden after the house
renovations so there is a place where mum can sit quietly and reflect".
Although she has brothers and sisters she is the one who does everything
like Christmas and New year. She also acquired a business recently which she
has demolished and there will be a brand new shop opening in its place. She
has a happy marriage and says she has a good life . "I strive all the time
to improve myself . I put pressure on myself. I talk to my body and know it
will never let me down." She spoke about a large business property they
bought and they lost money on but I am not sure abut just when this was."My
husband says I am an ideas person and I make things happen.I am never happy
with my lot as I want to earn more, have more and we do take chances,
calculated risks in business." The night her dad died she started to feel
unwell and sat up all night and when her brother who she was staying with
came in she said she knew her dad had died.
Another Sx which is new which I couldn't rep very well was waking at night
and having sneezing fits. She says she is never ill. She has patches of
vitilgo. "I'm too selfish to concentrate completely on my husbands and
children's needs to the extent that I would get pushed to the wayside."

So she is a go getter I reckon!!

How interesting!

You might find it useful to pursue a little further her thoughts about why
she pushes herself so hard. There's a definite cancer miasm flavor here --
slightly tubercular as well.

I'd ask questions to get deeper explanations of some of the things she has
told you, like the motivation for being so busy, taking risks in business,
wanting to have more, and especially that wonderful Arsenicum-like sentence
at the end about being "too selfish"... The rubric "NOSE sneezing night"
might also be a place to start from in narrowing down the remedy
possibilities then look for potential physical general confirmations of one
or the other remedy.

The vitiligo along with urticaria would indicate that there is possibly some
involvement of her thyroid gland -- possibly not to a clinically significant
degree at this point, but the indicated remedy would quite possibly have
some affinity to the thyroid. Just a thought.

Interesting as I suggested that she have a thyroid test as she complained of
putting on a stone in weight since a back complaint prevented her from
exercising and that she feels sluggish. I questioned her re Arsenicum but
couldn't really see it. It is the wrong time of day for a start off. I
think I am looking for a non polycrest remedy!!! I need to keep in mind
that she came for the urticaria!! I have just realised that I didn't discuss
her childhood but usually I find that when I forget something that I usually
ask it is because it is of no importance!

phen; sneezing; general; time; night; mod; waking, on:, excr-can.[1],
til[1]

I make no comment on these Rx!!
