Light and Dark

Post by Feras Hakkak »

Dear all,
How can we differentiate between "Aversion to Dark", "Fear of Dark", "Aggravation from Dark", "Desire for Light", and "Amelioration from Light"? What do we see in the patients that leads us to one of these and not the others?
Thanks for your attention,
Feras

Dear Feras,

I always differentiate between 'Fear of dark' and 'Desire for light' in
terms of the underlying mental state. For example, I have noticed that many
of my patients who suffer from S.A.D. really 'need' the light in order to
maintain equilibrium.. Accordingly, I may often use remedies like Calc.
Carb., Gels., Lac. Can.,Nat. Mur., and Phos. where the patient's condition
is improved by sunshine

I hope this helps,

Hugh

Hello Feras,
It seems to me that the difference lies mainly in the emotional state of the
patient.

"Aversion to dark" may leed to feelings of irritability, sadness, anger,
etc.
"Fear of dark" may leed to feelings of anxiety, anguish, panic, etc.
"Aggravation from dark" and "Amelioration from light" means that the
symptoms of the patient (physical, emotional or mental)become worse from
darkness without necessarily becoming better from light, and vice versa.

Hope this helps, Anouk.
