AIDS and homeopathy
AIDS and homeopathy
Im feeling grumpy today, made worse by reading the Minutus digest so
you may not want to read on....
With all the pomposity on here lately it might be worth considering
this: homeopathy has been hugely disappointing in helping, and
especially curing AIDS patients. When this new disease, an 'immune
deficiency syndrome' arrived on the scene it seemed like it may be an
ideal situation for homeopathy to show what it is really capable of;
to finally make its mark. That has not happened. Most homeopaths can
find a case or 2 in their files of an AIDS patient that got some
benefit from treatment but on the whole homeopathy has been a damp
squib in relation to AIDS. I even know of a homeopath who specialised
in AIDS for many years who gave up completely. No doubt Joy will tell
us she has a 90% success rate with AIDS patients and someone else will
tell us about obstacles to cure, allopathic suppression, non
compliance etc etc. - the excuses that always come up when homeopath's
results are questioned.
Even if PC's yield the results claimed, even if they turned out to be
combinations of nosodes or something equally abhorrent to the bores on
here, we would still be in no position to damn them. IF they do what
it says on the tin they are achieving a hell of a lot more for
severely ill AIDS sufferers than anyone on this forum with their
proved remedies in single doses.
Have a god day.

Maybe go back to the couch and superbowl then. And if you took the
trouble to find out you would know that it isn't just PC1 and HIV/AIDS
but a whole host of GE even down to belief rx such as joined up
thinking.
Is this all you can offer? Probably. Joy

Re: AIDS and homeopathy
I also know a homeopath who specialised in treating AIDS pxs,
lectured widely on it and had some pretty impressive short term
results for a goodly caseload of AIDS Pxs.
However there was no long term follow up that I heard of, due I
suspect to lack of funds, and I fairly sure this particular homeopath
has not been treating such Pxs for quite a few years.
I have heard very few case reports since, from any homeopaths, and I
know quite a few.
I can't say the cases aren't there but if they are they are very
infrequently published or related (especially compared to the size
of the problem) so I suspect it's but a drop in the ocean.
I am not interested in the PC debate, (AT ALL) but would say that I
have yet to see convincing evidence that AIDS Pxs are being
successfully treated in vast numbers by classical homeopaths.
Until that day I remain suspect of those occasional claims that
homeopathic cure is consistent, reliable, and effective in AIDS Pxs

Re: AIDS and homeopathy
Hey Grumpy,
Jaezus! Take a couple of doses of Ledum and call in the morning. I would like to respectively note my exceptions to your letter on topic.
What a pessimistic picture you paint of homeopathy and AIDS. It's no walk in the park, but AIDS patients frequently respond well to one of three isodes that I developed in the early 80s. (My findings and the fore runner of my book on AIDS was syndicated in David Magazine at the time. Was their best selling issues of all times). They are (in order of importance) ... Cyclosporine, Prednisone, and Azathioprine. Most AIDS patients benefit from one or more of these isode remedies in relatively high potency along with their constitutional and immediate symptomatic remedial indications. Frequently miasmic clearings help as well, as with any severely ill patients.
When this illness started to surface and hadn't yet been named (it was variously called Slims, Gay Cancer, etc.) there were those who of us as you stated in your letter who saw it as a possible avenue of wholistic intervention. My approach ultimately was to summarize the symptoms form some 547 patients who had been treated at UCSF and then consult the PDR (the allopathic book of provings) for those symptoms prominently exhibited as "side effects." Hence these three isodes.
I have used my treatment protocols to good effect over the years. I have good results, though there was too often discontinuance in patient attendance, so no meaningful objective "cure rates" could be established. That was consistent with the general prevalent fickle nature of that particular patient base. However, from those patients who stayed the course, the results were very good and their progress in almost all cases were tracked by allopathic testing for total viral load, etc. (Incidentally, Bill G's assertion that there is no virus or retrovirus associated with AIDS is prima facie discordant with those very findings, since the general health of the patients with AIDS improved as the viral load reduced).
Therefore Robin9168, I respectfully except to at least part of your findings and conclusions. I would be interested in hearing about your AIDS patients who failed to improve under your care (and those who did), and what you did to improve your protocols. Surely, you are not a worker who insists that the problems are with his tools, which is often a complaint of grumpy people!
Best wishes,
Tom

Hi Tom,
please - more about your protocols or a link ?
In the protocol you mention are those isodes only given to the Pxs
otherwise also on allomeds?
Thanks

Re: AIDS and homeopathy
Hello Tom
Its good to hear you are doing well with AIDS patients. I woudnt have
felt confident in your protocol if I didnt know that it worked for
you. It hard to imagine why those meds in potency are doing anything
worthwhile but I am open to investigating further.
I wasnt talking about my own experience alone. I was basing what I
wrote on my observations of many people's experience and the the fact
that homeopathy has made no significant impression outside of a few
peoples small practices. I stand by what I said. I dont think we have
done very well as a profession to help AIDS on the whole. Of course
you can find exceptions and you seem to be one. There are many very
good homeopaths who have been frustrated by AIDS.
Tell us, have you ever seen HIV+ turned HIV negative ?
H ve you ever seen widespread KS cured by homeopathy?
The most remarkable AIDS case Ive seen which went from deathbed to
near normal health on 2 months was a Lac Lupinum case of all things.

Re: AIDS and homeopathy
Hey Robin 9168,
I assume you're a guy form the spelling of Robin. I realize it's not terribly important, except that I'm a southern boy and we observe prudent reservations with the fairer gender.
If I have a specialty, which would seem a contradiction for a homeopath, then it is probably cancer patients. I treat whatever walks into my practice, be it colds, molds or sore butts. I'm especially interested in the muscular dystrophy diseases, most especially ALS. I also have an abiding interest in cancer and illnesses brought on by severe emotional states. I get a fair amount of peds in my practice and since I have a lot of grandkids and great grandkids, they like me. They scare me a bit, especially when the parents want a wholistic doc at all cost and sometimes I don't have the equipment or drugs to deal with their emergencies. I'm interested in specifics since I'm a teacher and writer and sometimes the specifics save us and our patients a lot of grief.
I've never used Lac lupinum and I wonder how much it differs from Lac c. There's so many of the newer remedies that have been proven over the past decade or two with which I'm unfamiliar. A fellow recommended Hydrogen to me in New York last year and I had to get a buddy of mine who's a homeopathic pharmacist to get me a sample. Sometimes I think we'd be better off if we had only a couple of hundred remedies with which to deal.
I see very strong affect with all three drugs I mentioned in high potency. I frequently find high potency prednisone indicated for cancer patients and often find prednisone's over-use all over the pathogenesis of some cancers. I fully realize that the cancerous diathesis might have been caused by the same influence that led an allopath to prescribe a med-roll for a patient. However, I have a strong interest in molecular nutrition and enhancing health with oxygen and oxygen carriers and in my opinion most steroids and other contrived hormonal substances tend to ultimately deplete oxygen subsystems. Hence patients who insist on parallel homeopathic and allopathic treatment tend to skew their own healing response.
I have one cancer patient that is definitely emblematic to me of my frustration with many patients with that illness. When he came to me shortly after being diagnosed, he was so frightened and needy that he kept forgetting our relationship and demanding this or that line of treatment from bits of dialogue we'd recently shared. As I occasionally have had to do, I gave him the standard "You can't be the doctor here" talk and he settled into being a good patient. When his symptoms start to abate and his clinical tests show the reduction in the viral load and the increase in T4's and reduction in T8's, he tends to get reckless and leave therapy for as long as 18 months at one time. He has not come to the place yet where his own immune system can take over the job. However, he has not progressed so far that good, empathic remedies haven't been able to restore him to some good semblance of health. I console myself that like any parasite, the AIDS virus strives to live and can't if it keeps killing its host. Since it, like all retroviruses, is species specific, it has to become less deadly to man. I have been taught and believe that until the HTLV germs were developed, that influenza was our fastest evolving viruses.
I can only speculate as to why the wholistic docs have had so little industry success with AIDS. I've seen homeopaths argue so much and use such vitriol on each other, that I am surprised they have sufficient self love and love for their patients that is often a key ingredient in establishing adequate patient rapport to discover the remedy. Today, though, homeopaths ranks seem to have swelled numerically with naturopaths, chiropractors, and allopaths (among other designated practitioners) who call themselves homeopaths, but who often practice a bastardized eclectic mixture and get hot on their erudition and reputations and forget the main job is to cure the patient. Hahnemann, Hering, Kent and Clarke are among my heroes. Homeopathy is so apparent to me and feels so right that I don't know why others haven't fallen in love with it as I have. I've been captivated by it and its ability to provide healing pathways so that we can help our patients and ourselves enjoy life and enjoy it more abundantly. I feel that the materia medicas were as divinely inspired as the bible and are themselves holy books. My grandkids used to ask me why people called me a wholistic doctor. I said, "Because I keep a whole list of stuff ."
Sometimes I have asked patients how they came to be at my practice. Many who have said, "God sent me to you."
I was always pleased to know that God knew my name or address. It's a great comfort as you trek on through the twilight of your years. I was mostly a mediocre healer when I practiced by intellect alone. Once I truly got "Namaste" and could sense that holy light within the patient, then I was able to deduce their remedy and expected and seldom was disappointed to see them return in time to abundant and chronic health. I charge somewhat dearly for my services, but often found the greater reward in the eradication of pain, fear and despair from the people who allowed me to treat them.
I am sure that there are probably many of our peers who have fared better with AIDS patients than have I. However, I can just as easily see why so many of our peers have done poorly with them, and that might be said of many practices in general. I think if that day comes when I don't feel a sense of love and hope in a patient who comes under my care, then that will be the day when I hang up my stethoscope, my repertory and my beloved remedies and find some other way to fill my days.
Best wishes,
Tom
