Hi,
I was just recalling a small book called Flat Earth Medicine by Timothy
Dooley, ND, MD. For those not familiar with this book, it is an introduction
to homeopathy for the lay person. He talks of his experience as a naturopath
and his love for homeopathy. But then says he decided to go to medical
school to see "if i was missing something." After classroom training and
traditional residency work, he says something was missing and it wasnt him.
He found no underlying basis or perspective in treating patients, no
appreciation for the body's ability to heal itself and that "patients were
treated as broken biochemical machines." He returned to naturopathy and
homeopathy. But he did note the way the medical establishment, including
students, viewed holistic practices--as less than legitimate and they would
invalidate anyone speaking about such practice or theory.
Just thought this an interesting piece of experience that bridges two
opposing experiences.
