There is almost nothing topical that won't irritate the
hell out of eczema. Cold water is often the most benign for
the most relief. And avoiding foods that aggravate.

Not if Sulphur is needed and that is fairly common for an eczema problem.

Dear Cinnabar, it is mainly steroid cream that I encounter although I
have had cases that have used steroid injections. Amazingly there was
one case that the eczema had been so suppressed by the injections but
the picture still shone through.

Withdrawal depends on the case. If the eczema has only been recently
suppressed I ask for immediate withdrawal but with plenty of backup if
they begin to suffer (if necessary I would rather them use OTC creams
as at least this is step down from steroids).

If it is long term suppression I ask for withdrawal on one part of the
body to see what happens and then progress from there. Sometimes I
don't even give a rx if I can't see a true homeopathic sx picture - we
wait until sx begin to return. Then you have to go with what you get.
It is very important that people don't suffer so it is finding a
balance until the homeopathic rx takes over. That balance might mean
reusing the original creams for the worst of it just for very short
periods - this might seem awful but some cases are so bad you just
can't expect the client to put up with it and they often don't want to
use what you suggest for them.

Also with long term suppression the sx picture might change because it
can be difficult seeing an accurate picture so be prepared to change
the remedy if necessary (only if necessary and not mistaking progress
as needing another rx) - withdrawal in whatever form will nearly always
bring out so much.

As Robin and others have said there are lots of non suppressive
soothing agents and I think you just have to discuss them with your
client but most of all keep communicating with him regularly so that

Are you saying that cold water is not benign, or that it doesn't
give comfort/relief? or just that the heat/cold would
be one thing leading you to homeo Sulphur?

It's hard to go back 40-50 years to know
what would have happened if homeo Sulphur had been given
instead of just cold water as-needed.

That same Sulphur remedy given decades later may give different
results. Or apparently help for a time, but if the eczema
comes back months or years later,
then do we say it's old eczema working its way out
further, or possibly even some degree of suppression from the
earlier Sulphur remedy. My sense is it's very possible
to disappear eczema symptoms with Sulphur remedies, and it
looks like stunning results, but not have
a permanent cure, maybe even some degree of suppression.

And the person's constitutional remedy, if not Sulphur, may
give various results with regard to the eczema.

I have heard it said that it may take as long to resolve eczema
homeopathically as the person has already had it.
If the person is 50 yrs old when they first go to the
homeopath for lifelong eczema, will it
take another 50 yrs to resolve fully without suppression
in the process? I gather this is an extreme view set forth
to foster patience. So when do you know if you have a permanent
cure for eczema? No more eczema until the person dies at an old age?
My point here is that there are likely cases of longstanding
eczema that are prematurely declared cured.
