burns. So, cold or even ice would be applied to a burn. If anyone has compared treating small
burns on their fingers with warm and cold applications, they know that the homeopathic principle is
much more healing. Naturally, if the body is told that it is too hot (because of the burn), it will
react by healing the burn. If it is told that the burn is actually cold, the vital force will not

If the burn is on the torso, would you still apply a warm compress? Both hot and cold

that the burn is on the torso?

Below is an exerpt from Banerji's Materia Medica - on how he treats burns for yours and others
interest.
CANTHARIS
6
GROUP A - 1
Burn or scald.
Before forming the blisters or when the blisters have started forming.
Direction for application : A layer of cotton soaked with Cantharis 6 has to be applied covering
the injured area.
Note : Burn or scald, as soon as it occurs, should be covered with cotton to exclude air
immediately. If Cantharis 6 is available at hand, it should be applied by soaking a layer of cotton
covering the entire area of the injured skin. If the 6th potency is not readily available, Cantharis
200 may be used in its place. If this remedy is not readily available either, unmedicated petroleum
jelly maybe thickly applied covering the entire area to exclude air. In any case, the burnt area has
to be immediately covered as soon as burn injury occurs, to exclude air-contact. This will prevent
formation of blisters. Intolerable burning can be stopped by application of Cantharis 6 or 200.
To suppress the intense and severe burning when the remedies are not available, or when covering
with cotton cannot be tolerated, ice can be applied to the area of burn for immediate relief. It is,
however, only a palliative and burning will immediately return as soon as the ice is taken off. So
ice may be continuously applied till these remedies are available. The pain from burn injury is
unbearable, and, so, ice will be needed for immediate relief if available and also if the burnt area
is not very large. Cantharis potencies in alcoholic tincture should not be applied to a broken or
red, raw skin or to a broken blister. Ten to fifteen drops of Cantharis, in its available potency,
can be mixed with a cup of distilled water, or filtered water, in place of its raw tincture and can
be applied to the broken skin. Cantharis 200 or even 6, when given by mouth, will soon cure the
burning.
In cases of shock from severe burn, third degree burn, or where it is not possible to apply
Cantharis externally, because of the deeply destructed tissues, the oral administration of the drug
should be frequently repeated. A dose of Aconite 200 often helps to overcome the shock, and along
with Cantharis 200 by mouth, in such severe cases, Arnica 3 may be given intercurrently, every 4 or
5 hours, for curbing down the possibilities of other complications.
The author got the opportunity of treating such cases of severe burns in quite a good number. At
Mihijam there were no adequate medical facilities available within a radius of 100 miles, and the
research clinic of the author was considered much dependable by the people of this country. For a
Homoeopath to get the opportunity of treating such a case of serious burn is very rare. Even now
there are cases of severe burns being treated quite often under the organisation of the author. Now
people have confidence in Homoeopathy as they see burn cases cured under the author. An example
being set up, now gradually, other Homoeopaths are also getting the chances of being consulted for
some cases of burns. So, the above therapy may come to their help now.

Re: Burns
Hi Robyn,
Dr. Banerjea gives a wonderful answer to my question. I don't see his MM at Minimum.com, where I usually buy books. Is it part of his course and not for sale?
Thank-you for sharing it with us.
Blessings,
Ellen

Re: Burns
Dear Shannon,
The question about contamination of the brun wound would probably depend on whether the wound was open. Dr. Banejea's answer seems to suggest that the bigger concern is contact with the air. It is easy to apply a clean bandage, but as it get old, certainly bacteria will grow in it. With calendula on small wounds, the whole point is it will protect against infection. Probably that applies is the case of a big burn on the torso too.
Blessings,
Ellen

Re: Burns
Hi Ellen
Sorry to say his books are currently out of print --- or so I believe --- hopefully they will again
be available and the Mat. Med finished or closer to being finished.
Just to point out that his name is spelled Parimal Banerji --- not Banerjea.
Here is some more on treatment of burns, under Cantharis 200
Please note, Banerji sees different potencies as almost different remedies, so the potencies he
quotes are specific to the clinical results he has achieved and from his research --- to be the most
useful
Cantharis 200
GROUP A - 1
Burn or scald.
Indicated at all stages of burns or scalds.
Superficial or deep ulcerations or blisters from bum or scald.
When the burn occurs, a dose given immediately by mouth relieves the atrocious pain and burning in
half an hour.
Ulcers from burn or scald at any stage.
Dose : When possible to attend immediately after the burn, it is given every one hour till the
burning is relieved. In more acute burning, it is to be used more frequently. When the burning pains
are over and the blisters or ulcerations are formed, Cantharis 200 and Arsenic alb.200 are used
alternately, one being in a day, or maybe, one in the morning and the other in the evening,
according to the severity of the case.
Note See notes under Cantharis 6 for directions about local
application of this drug immediately after burn. When
Cantharis 200 and Arsenic alb. 200 are used in burn injury,
they give complete protection against tetanus and sepsis. The
author has treated more than a thousand cases of burns of
different degrees, and not a single case has produced any
such disease like tetanus or septic infection even where
conditions were most unhygienic with every possibility of
various types of contaminations. Cantharis 200 is almost a
specific for burn.
In the author's research clinic, he got many cases of burn-
ulcers which were persisting for years or even decades,
defying treatment and medicines of all disciplines.
He feels very much fascinated to describe a case of a very old
post-burn large unhealing ulcer, covering 75% of the scalp on the top of the head. It occurred on
the seventh day after his birth and was remaining there for nearly forty years. The top Allopathic
and Homoeopathic physicians of the country had failed to cure it. The man came for the treatment of
a relative and never mentioned about his ulcer to the author, as he knew it to be incurable. The
author suo motu took up the treatment of his burn. Cantharis 200 and Arsenic alb.200 were tried, but
they could not do anything of the ulcer. Ultimately, a single dose of Carbolic acid 200 showed
improvement. Finding the improvement to be static after 15 days, it was repeated on every sixth day
thereafter, which cured the ulcer in three months' time. A similar case of 20 years standing, burnt
ichorous ulcer behind the knee, covering about 12 inches in length and 5 inches in width, was cured
by a single dose of Carbolic acid 200. These are miraculous experiences of the author, which may be
utilised by the reader in a relevant situation if a chance of use occurs. But, in burn-ulcers of
recent origin which are a few weeks or months old, respond better to Cantharis and Arsenic than
Carbolic acid 200. It is needless to say that during his research the author carried out experiments
also with other potencies of these drugs. The optimum potencies are mentioned here.

Dear Robyn,
Sorry about the misspelling. I know Julian Winston would turn over in his grave to see my spelling memory.
What a privilege to study under such detailed instruction. Please tell us when Dr. Banerji's MM is published. Be sure to put the message in the subject line.
Blessings,
Ellen

Re: Burns
Hi Ellen,
Yes; I suppose not a concern otherwise.
Yes, interesting! I recall that an old "folk remedy" was to put butter
on the burn, but somewhere I *thought* had had read / been told that
that had been discredited (not that that proves anything), but
experience trumps theory in any case, and it sounds like he had plenty
of that.
I think that is the reason the bandage needs to be kept *damp* with
calendula solution--to stop the bacteria from growing. Calendula is (I
have read) not antibiotic (doesn't directly kill germs) but
bacteriostatic (will not permit them to thrive)--a subtle distinction
in my book! But in any case, the calendula apparently keeps the area
close-enough to sterile, without the harsh and disturbing effect of
repeatedly changed sterile dressings. At least that's my
understanding.
Best,
Shannon

Re: Burns
Hi Group,
Read different opinion of managing burns.
I will like to refer two instances.
Honey is told to be a very good curative and antiseptic for burns.( some
study has also told it so) on all type of burns honey is used as an
external. I had seen a man on whom boiling water had fallen both legs
where burned but he has come to attend a function with in some hr of
this , he has applied honey on the thigh and leg. Even the flesh was
seen in some parts but he was cool. He has healed faster from the burns
even without any scaring.
I have read a few year a back and article where a scientist told that
honey has antibacterial property so even in cases of 70% burns
hospitals use honey as a external - sorry i dont have any other data to
support this - the article was in "The Hindu".
Now coming to Homoeopathy last day a child my neighbour was brought to
my clinic 3 yrs old he has immersed his palm in hot water in the bath
tub. I had not any tincture or lower dilution of calendula or
cantharis. It was just 5 minutes of his immersing. She had applied honey
- but the child was crying due to pain. So i applied on the palm a
patented Hair gel - which with arnica and cantharis. When i finished
applying the child stooped crying. and stated to notice the colourfully
things in the clinic. And believe me not ever a blister came on the
palm - small blisters came in b/w one of the finger where this gel may
not have touched. The child healed with this it self. On the 4th day i
found him holding a stick and playing with it. ( i has applied this gel
with a previous experience where my mother go a small burn on her back
when the hot cooker had kissed her back i had applied this gel and she
told that immediately she forgot the pain and the burn.
