The Constant Gardener

Post by Simon King LCPH MARH »

Has anyone seen this film?

I don't want to give the plot away but it should be recommended to
anyone interested in ethical medicine

Saw the film and highly recommend it. It's one that stays with you. It
also shows a side of Kenya tourists never see. The music is haunting,
although "Kothbiru," the song played through much of it, is about calling
the cows home and has nothing to do with the skullduggery portrayed in the
movie.

Is that skullduggery realistic? I thought so, but then my ex-husband was
involved many years ago in the tetracycline price-fixing conspiracy. Not as
a fixer, but as a lawyer defending the fixers. We used to joke that there
would be a falling-out among thieves and the companies involved would soon
be suing each other for damages. If you read the late Senator Kefauver's
hearings on chloromycetin, you realize nothing changes: the mechanisms for
murder are just more elegant than Hollywood portrays.

Peace,
Cinnabar
