sunlight aggravates

Post by Rosemary C Hyde »

My memory is foggy here, so perhaps this will not be useful.

Several weeks ago, someone posted a case where what seemed strange (to me) was the strength and severity of the person's aversion to and aggravion from sunlight. Of course this makes one think of a Natrum, which as I remember didn't resonate with the rest of the case.

I've just been researching a case with excruciating, long-lasting residual pain, swelling, paralysis, numbness, and mottling of the skin in the affected leg, after a minor jar riding a horse. As I was looking at Causticum, I came across a phrase in Vermeulen's Concordant, under mind or generalities, something to the effect of "agony from sunlight," and it made me think of that case. This wasn't something I'd previously been aware of for Causticum.

For what it's worth, if I'd seen this before, that symptom might have made me at the time think of exploring Causticum as part of that differential diagnosis. I hope whoever posted the case recognizes the symptom, and that there's a distant possibility of this being helpful. Rosemary

Causticum is one of those few remedies that feels much better in cloudy
and damp weather and I think this is mirrored in the hopeless and
despondent feelings this rx has. There is a dark and gloomy side to
Causticum that is seen in the after effects of a 'burn out' situation.
In fact 'burning' is a sensation that is felt strongly by this rx and
that is why 'sunlight' represents as such a problem. It can be a
cautious and censorious rx and can carry a seriousness that is
reminiscent of dark clouds - this is grief mainly but is also seen in
an abstraction of mind that favours the gloom of cloudy weather - or
foggy memories :-)) Best wishes, Joy

Thanks Rosemary.
It was probably my case - the CFS woman who wouldn't get out of bed and her
room that you were referring to . She is agg from sunlight. I don't think
Caust would be right for her but if she ever wants me to prescribe for her
again I will give it a thought. The latest on that case is guess what , the
lesion on her forehead is a rodent ulcer as I suspected!! The Calendula
cream I gave her to put on softened the scab so it came off and then she
called the doctor. You can't believe how she went on about the doctor not
knowing anything because he was black and they probably don't see things
like this in their country. The black doctor was probably born and schooled
in UK! Arsenicum came to mind again!! Any how she had to be taken - by her
daughter - to see a consultant. When I phoned this week - she said she
didn't want me round to see her , wouldn't give my phone number to her
daughter (her prerogative ofcause) , was going to have treatment on it next
week and we left it that she would phone me if she wanted me to go round
there again!! She was quite confused- said it was terrible having to put
clothes on and go out but by the time she returned she had got used to it!!

Thanks, Joy, for integrating that little symptom snippet so elegantly into the Causticum picture :-)) And Rochelle, thanks for the update on this fascinating case. That poor woman! I hope she finds some relief. Rosemary
