saccharums album and officinale?

I had been told and had read that saccharum album and saccharum
officinale are different names for the same remedy. BUT according to
Tinus Smits' book, S. officinale is made from sugar cane *juice*
("impurities" aka "nutrients" and all), whereas S. album is refined
white sugar (as the name implies--there is nothing "white" about cane
juice!). Does anyone know anything about that, and what the
differences in remedy picture would be? It certainly seems to me that
there *would* be differences!

In My RefWks (not the most recent) sac-alb and sac-off are lumped
together under sac-alb, and in fact sac-off does not even have an
abbreviation listed separately.
where Tinus is talking about experimenting with the difference--I'll
have to read it later; but that's no help if *others* are mixing the
terms up, which is my impression!

I've found the reference in Murphy, and it's not promising... He says:
"Natural History: Pharmacy--Sacch. Saccharum officinale. Saccharum
album. Cane sugar. ..." So he *is* viewing the two terms as
referring to the same, and is evidently speaking of refined white
sugar, not cane juice. Argh... Looks like it's the same situation as
with ayahuasca and (I think) bani-o, where the terms are (incorrectly)
used interchangeably and you have to ask each individual pharmacy which
they've got. Yuk...

Well, I will get busy reading (later, sigh), but if you (or anyone!)
find anything specific to help separate the two, I will be eager to
hear!
