Funnel Chest

Post by Sandra Russo »

Hi,

I have an infant 6 months old, who was born with funnel chest (depression of
the chest bone and a flaring out of the ribs therefore looking like a
funnel. The Medical term for this is " termpectus excavatum" My question is
an easy one really, has anyone treated young children with this deformity
and and had success. I do realise that I will treat the child
constitutionally.

I guess I just have some curiosity over this instance.

Thanks in advance ...

Hi Sandra

I am unable to give you any clinical advice about expected results from
treatment, however, the following has been found, and it seems that the
Tubercular miasm is implicated, possibly with a little help from fluoridated
water, and a treatment with Calc-fluor may be indicated.

Dr. Banerji has info on Calc-fluor in only 3X, 6X and 12X, which would
indicate the potencies he finds useful for the conditions is covers. From
viewing his materia medica, I would say that the potency indicated would be
3X, and he has given it twice a day for a few weeks for swollen parietal
bones of newborns and other similar conditions.

He also mentions that it has a similar effect on bony growths as does Calc
carb, however, that Calc-carb has a mostly generalised action and Calc
fluor actions are of localised nature.

Here is an exerpt from EH re that skeletal disharmony as it is termed :-)

Grandgeorge -- The Spirit of Homoeopathic Remedies

"A cleft uvula, cleft palate (harelip), calcification of the eardrum,
angioma (tumors of blood or lymph vessels), cephalhematoma (a large,
blood-filled bump on the head, usually after birth), deficient tooth enamel,
skeletal disharmony (a funnel-shaped chest, for example): these symptoms
will direct the health practitioner toward Calcarea fluorica. "

And again from Vermeulen re Grandgeorge above

"In some areas, it is wise to be very careful of possibly harmful effects
from fluoride added to the diet through salts of fluorine used in cooking or
in the form of tablets given to children and pregnant women. If the level of
fluorine in the local water supply surpasses 0.5 milligrams per litre,
fluoride supplementation of any kind should be avoided. For example, where I
live in the Fréjus-St. Raphaël area of France, the water contains as much as
0.8 mg per litre of fluorine, and we find many Calcarea fluorica children in
the area. ... A cleft uvula, cleft palate [harelip], calcification of the
eardrum, angioma [tumours of blood or lymph vessels], cephalhematoma [a
large, blood-filled bump on the head, usually after birth], deficient tooth
enamel, skeletal disharmony [a funnel-shaped chest, for example]: these
symptoms will direct the health practitioner toward Calcarea fluorica."

I think you have answered your own question really. If there is a
situation to treat then the whole person will be treated.

This is a condition involving excess connective tissue and you need to
know if other parts of the body are effected. If not then depending on
how severe the funnelling is it might have an effect on the heart or
other nearby organs. Sometimes treated surgically.

I have had 2 cases of marfan syndrome (also involving connective
tissue) one very successful over a number of years, the other case
didn't continue with homeopathy so I don't know the outcome.

It always comes down to 'what needs to be cured'. Best wishes, Joy

I feel sure I was at a lecture once where this was mentioned and the Rx suggested was a nosode , maybe syphillinum or Tuberculinum. Sorry I can't be more specific. I have searched my notes but I have a feeling it was in a lecture by Bannerjea. I am starting a Post grad course with him next month so will ask then.
