Hi,
This px has had a small blue-ish mark on the palmar side of the third finger just below the first joint, for several months if not a year. Yesterday it all of a sudden became hard and nodular and painful when pressed. Size is about the size of a small globule. The finger is slightly hot and the second joint is slightly swollen, but the circulation seems to be OK. Px feels a slight aching pain in the palm of her hand, but has full use of the hand and fingers, including clenching and stretching.
Any ideas? I've looked in skin, discolouration, blue spots, but I haven't found anything that seems to sum up the hard, nodular, painful nature. I looked it up in Merck, and it looks like it's a "pyogenic granuloma" which can go away by itself.
Px is scared that circulation is being stopped in finger, has moments of intense fear which cause diarrhea. I'm not sure if this is a first aid situation or connected to her constitutional - at present she's receiving Aurum. Possible trigger - she had dental work done and used a lot of Arnica. I saw that Arnica also has a symptom of "distended veins", I was wondering if that could have triggered this problem.

I've had something that sounds similar--small, slightly tender, bluish
nodule just below the first joint (by which I mean the first one above
the palm). In my case I was told it was just a blood vessel valve,
that had for some reason become irritated, and it went away after a few
(?)days, maybe weeks. I've had it happen a few times from certain
types of pressure to that area (awkward grip on a large object with a
sharp edge, that sort of thing).

For it to last so long seems unusual, and the feelings of heat and the
added swelling, does sound like something else is happening. Is the
nodule below the skin, or part of the skin? The info I briefly googled
up on pyogenic granuloma sounds different from what I'm describing, so
I might have misunderstood what you're describing... Has she seen a
doctor? Could be a useful way to get information?

Hi Shannon,
The original mark that she had wasn't tender - it only became tender when it swelled slightly. She hasn't seen a doctor yet. The nodule is clearly under the skin, not part of the skin.

Kind of read likes a blood boil or whatever the correct term is.
Certainly could have been from the arnica if it is this and you should
check with the aurum to see if it is in the sx picture. Keep an eye on
it and get her to have it checked out if she is concerned. Best wishes,

Thanks for your response. In the meantime, since nothing was happening with the aurum anyway (and it wasn't really part of the sx picture although it is congestive), I thought I'd try "hair of the dog"... She'd been taking Arnica 200C for the dental work (independently), and had taken a lot of it, so I gave her a dose of Arnica 6C. She reported within an hour that the swelling seemed to be less, the area was less painful and the knuckle moved more easily. I'll tell her to get it checked out as well, but she was less frantic and her mood was more optimistic. It's been an interesting lesson in the pitfalls of Arnica!

Interesting! Do you know just how many doses of 200c she had taken,
how far apart, and whether she's using the "as needed" approach or
dosing on a schedule?
