Puzzle

Post by Rochelle Marsden »

I have a patient who gets weird dreams , normally of the being pursued variety and can wake up very upset with this. Zinc 30 helps. She goes to India on holiday a lot since she has bought a house there and tells me that when she is there she never has these nightmares. The other thing is that in UK she is very light sensitive and has black out curtains because if she wakes at 5 am for instance and there is the slightest chink of light coming into the room she can't get back to sleep and again in India there is no problem . Any suggestions what rubrics I could be looking at or what I could suggest other than emigrate to India???? This patient is IDD and fluctuates within the SCaLy triad with the odd Nux and Zinc.

Regards
Rochelle

Suggestions:

retake the case and avoid giving triads
get to grips with the dreams vis the rest of the case
people usually sleep better when they are on holiday so the sx
shouldn't really be compared to a holiday situation
waking aggravates
waking, daybreak
waking, easy
waking, frequent, toward morning
insomnia, after waking
insomnia in an illuminated room
insomnia, morning

Some interesting rubrics there Joy. I used Photophobia on waking as that is how she has always described it to me.
RU, Eye; photophobia; morning; waking, on: (see mod, waking, on:), dirc[1], lach[3], rhus-v[1] However I have never given her any of these Rx!! Zinc is in the photophobia from daylight rubric. I don't give a Rx unless it is indicated and any time I have given one of the triad it has been indicated.

Hi Rochelle,
I assume you asked if she has any thoughts at all about what might make
the difference?

Yep and her answer was "maybe I am more relaxed because I am not working". She is an osteopath and I have known her to have 14 patients in a day!!

Mm, that does seem to support Joy's idea, that the vacation is the main
thing, not moving to India! I'd be inclined to not bother with the
fact that she's better when on vacation :-) , and just focus on the
rest of it. Maybe ask her to describe the feeling of the dreams (even
more so than the content, IMO), and how this ties into feelings in the
rest of her life? Does she feel "pursued" by her workload, and can she
bring out any more detail?

Rochelle-
is there any aversion to work? Exhaustion? The > during vacation and
photophobia < morning as if not wanting to face a busy day -

Zinc has worked as it has brain fag, photophobia etc. and that
itself makes me wonder about the brain fag indication

Nux vom, Sepia, Calc also have these...with disturbing dreams

Is the photophobia due to sleeplessness - is it not normal to wake up
with kind of burning eyes if you do not have good sleep?
Pursued by what? Always the same kind of pursuit? Occurs daily or now
and then - if occasional associated with any thing else? If she has
vacationed any where else and how was she then? Difference between
week end and week days... Any difference between Sunday night and
Friday night? Does any one accompany her to India - does she go with
someone or on her own ( is she leavng behind just the work or someone
here when she goes to India?

The feelings in the dream are fearful. They are nightmares and she can wake very frightened. Just an example from May
- "chased by the predator which represents invisible and unknown. It was killing people next to me but it never got me. It was violent being chased and the suspense of being caught and dying a traumatic bloody death and it was this which disturbed me. It made me feel unsettled." After this in may she took a Zinc 30 and the dreams settled down.
She enjoys her job as far as I am aware.
