Re: mineral discussion
Next one would be Stage 7 then.
Looking at the minerals that would give:
Ironserie – Manganum
Silverserie – Technetium
Lanthanideserie – Promethium
Goldserie – Rhenium
Actinideserie – Neptunium
As far as I know is Promethium not a homeopathic remedy, as it is a
mineral not found on earth.
Technetium and Rhenium are not well known yet.
Neptunium muriaticum had a proving.
Manganum is the only one that is known from the beginning and then
not the metallicum but Manganum aceticum.
Shall we start with the compounds of Manganum.
Scholten writes about 8 of them: Mang, Mang-nit, Mang-ac, Mang-sil,
Mang-p, Mang-s, Mang-m, Mang-i.
Maybe that people who want to participate can `take' one of them and
post it next week.

Dear Annemieke,
I found Manganum Carb in the EH. I'll work on that, although I did not see it in your list. Ok?
Blessings,

Hi Ellen
Manganum carbonicum would be great.
That it was not on my list, was because I did not look good enough.

Re: mineral discussion
I've had a patient respond very well to Manganum-metallicum to treat the after-effects of chemotherapy. I thank someone on this list for giving me the key rubric (sorry I can't remember who it was): EXTREMITIES - walking - slapping. I had looked and looked for how to find this symptom, and couldn't figure it out. The rubric has one remedy, Manganum, which in fact covered the chemo effects very well.
Here was the patient's narrative:
"After chemo - when walking, I feel a weakness in tibia, shin. I feel as if my feet are flopping - don't have enough strength to control my leg and how it lays my foot down - it feels like I'm walking flatfooted. My shins also ache when I'm walking along. Also forearms - where bone marrow is producing blood.
My bood count has gotten extremely low, White blood count and platelets were very low. Hemoglobin was 7.
Last week there was a sort of pressing feeling around my chest. From low red blood count - I feel like I can't get enough air.
There's tingling and numbness in my finger tips also.
It feels as if I'd fall over forward if someone bumped me - feels as if I can't control my legs. Couldn't stand back up after squatting. If I'm going down a steep hill I feel as if I'm going to fall over. "
This was a new state for her, clearly caused by the chemotherapy. It was not a constitutional state, but rather a toxicity.
Boericke, in describing Manganum aceticum cites for this remedy a couple of issues relevant to this case. He says "Manganum causes anemia with destruction of the red corpuscles." Further, under Extremities, he also cites a "tendency to fall forward.. Legs feel numb...peculiar slapping gait... Bones very painful." Lippe, in his Red Line Symptoms, for Manganum, cites "Inflammation of the bones and periosteum,... Paralysis of the nerves of motion... Aggravation from stooping, motion..." In Hering's Condensed Materia Medica, we find "Upper limbs: Gnawing and boring in humerus, as if in the marrow,..." Phatak says, among other things, "Like iron, Manganum causes anemia with destruction of red corpuscles. .. Motor paralysis ascending, ...Bones are very sensitive...Progressive muscular atrophy...Weak uncertain legs...Slapping gait... Tendency to fall forward..."
In Synoptic I, Vermeulen cites the sore pain in bones and joints and makes the interesting comment that Arnica has a high Manganese content -- he cites Mathur as recommending Manganum for a bruised, sore feeling when it is not relieved by Arnica.
Because this is a case of toxicity, not a constitutional case, it's limited in its symptoms. However, the combination of anemia + bone pains in arms and legs + slapping gait + tendency to fall forward + weakness in lower extremities did point strongly to this remedy, which significantly relieved those symptoms that had already developed and also allowed the patient to complete the remaining two chemo treatments without any further exacerbation of the symptoms. Her anemia after the remaining two treatments was really minor compared to where she had found herself after the first four treatments, and her blood recovered spontaneously within a couple of days to normal values after the last two treatments, while taking the Mang. She has now completed the chemo and is doing well in her recovery from it. The intercurrent treatment with Manganum-metallicum allowed her to finish the allopathic treatment with much less discomfort and illness than she was heading for, giving us a better energetic platform from which to continue treating her lymphoma with Plussing according to Dr. Ramakrishnan's protocol. The constitutional remedy to which she has responded brilliantly and deeply over several months is Phosphoric acid.

Re: mineral discussion
Manganum has a lot of strange walking activities - mainly known for
walking backwards - this is because it has an affinity to both brain
and bones (parkinson's disease is prominent), lots of growing pains
(bone cancer figures a lot in the other rx in group 7), and arthritis
and muscular atrophy (deficiency causes this) so 'slapping' is the
result.

Re: mineral discussion
Dear all, on this sad day for people in London all I can offer is this
contribution to the mineral discussion. I think this idea to work on a
group has been fascinating and very worthwhile and I have learnt a lot
pondering on these remedies. Sorry if it's a bit long and I will put it
up on my website when I get the chance.
Healing to those who need itl. Best wishes, Joy
The Synthesis of Group 7
Group 7 on the periodic table includes:-
Manganese – one of the so called transition metals known for their
hardness, brittleness, high density, high melting point and heat
conduction; metal is reactive; found in stainless steel = tarnishes
slowly, but easily oxidised; widely distributed especially on the ocean
floor; has magnetic qualities; important trace element essential for
the utilisation of the B vitamins and the activation of the enzyme
systems (has a lasting impression on the skin in the form of chronic
eczema), deficiency causes impaired growth, loss of sexual interest,
poor fertility and unco-ordinated muscle movement; general qualities =
strong, tough, stiff, hard and resistant – opposite polarities exist
also; is responsible for the colour of amethyst; toxic in large
amounts; pathology includes bones (growing pains), joints, liver, brain
(motor paralysis and Parkinson’s disease), ears,
and for our purposes we have to include
Manganum aceticum – aceticum = is both cooling and refreshing, a tonic
and digestive; blood purifier; pathology includes anaemia, oedema,
cancer, fibrous deposits, diabetes; emotionally they harbour grief and
tend to look for something to worry about = accumulative = cancer and
oedema; great on fish and chips!
Manganum carbonicum – carbonicum = self worth; dignity; fearful and
shy; hard workers; understands ‘values’
Manganum iodatum – iodatum = needs nutrition due to dysfunctional
thyroid; restless and forgetful so become obsessive and impulsive;
needs to escape; they understand their ‘existence’ and feel dejected
Manganum muriaticum – muriaticum = the ‘mother’; care and nurture; self
pity and selfish; understands the ‘self’
Manganum nitricum – nitricum = needs space to expand else they will
explode; polarities of tension and relaxation
Manganum silicon – silicon = absorbs; takes on too much; yielding; will
expel if overwhelmed and not allowed to yield
Manganum phosphoricum – phosphoricum = communication; sympathy;
curiosity and fears; needs stimulation and excitement; diffused
Manganum sulphuricum – sulphuricum = love and beauty; jealousy; lazy;
lack of balance between mental ability and physical ability
Technitium – found in stellar matter; radio-active; a by product of the
nuclear industry; reactive to hydrogen and sulphide; tarnishes slowly
thus inhibiting corrosion
Rhenium – has a high melting point; connected to ammonium and hydrogen;
easily made into wire coils (malleable); used in filaments and photo
flash bulbs; withstands corrosion
Bohrium – synthetic (doesn’t exist), only a few atoms have been
produced for a very short while (0.44 seconds); decays rapidly;
radioactive; very unstable
Promethium (lanthanoid = magnetic qualities, rubber like behaviour,
luminescent blue range, 4 pronged star shape, promethium is the only
lathanoid that does not occur naturally) – radioactive; rare earth
metal; used in nuclear batteries to capture light; Prometheus was the
God who stole fire from heaven, thus Promethium is missing from the
earth and is artificially produced but identified in stars and so can
produce light; Promethius was punished by Zeus for stealing the fire
Neptunium (actinoid = star shaped) – also synthetic; radioactive; used
in detection instruments; lodges in the bones = bone cancer; lasts for
millions of years but decays into plutonium; unstable; Neptune is the
roman God of the sea = safe voyage – Poseidon is the Greek equivalent
but Neptune was never considered as powerful as Poseidon; Poseidon’s
son was Pegasus and there is a strong connection with horses – Poseidon
means “husband” which means “fertility” and Poseidon lusted after his
own sister and shape shifted into a stallion to recapture her; Poseidon
was brother to Zeus; Neptune also God of earthquakes so expect shaking,
crashing and crumbling as part of the decaying process; huge affinity
to water and land, the 3 tridents = seas, rivers, earth; most
pronounced pathology is cancer of the bones, liver and adrenal glands
Neptunium muriaticum – muriaticum = see above
The proving for neptunium muriaticum can be found at
http://homoeopathie-wichmann.de/proving ... 0franz.htm

From this we can reduce to
Hard, brittle and yet malleable
Evolving, fertility and decaying
Synthetic and artificial, everywhere but nowhere
Danger and safety, protective but unstable
Power and energy
Magnetic and coloured light
Stealing and detection
My own point of significance with this group is that of being
synthetic, unattainable and yet very dangerous. This is largely due to
the radioactivity that is created when artificially produced and for
substances that barely exist they yield enormous power, starting with
the tough, resistant and magnetic qualities of Manganese, through to
the crashing and crumbling decay of Neptunium. The irony comes from
being synthetic and yet, when artificially produced, lasting forever.
Not surprising that cancer is one of the most serious pathologies found
with this group of remedies. They are everywhere and nowhere (remember
the Jeff Beck song?). Manganum is everywhere and Promethium and
Neptunium are nowhere (likewise with Bohrium if it is ever proved and
used homeopathically).
When a substance is artificially produced there is some element of
deception or trickery involved – Manganum has dark, deep secrets;
Promethium steals and Neptunium has trickery and treason that can lead
to psychosis and schizophrenia.
Another angle on being synthetic or artificial is that people who need
a remedy from this group will have adapted a synthetic persona, mainly
through suppression. They are able to do this because of their
malleability but it comes at a high price considering the severity of
pathology that is attached to these remedies. Suppression = the loss of
the real self and an artificial self is produced instead.
So, in Manganum we have chronic eczema as an expression of this
suppression; in Promethium and Neptune this suppression erupts and
becomes a powerful latent force akin to the nuclear energy they
represent, hence the presence of diseases such as cancer and deeply
disturbed personality disorders.
This power gains momentum with Promethium and Neptunium but is lacking
in the same intensity with Manganum. Sankaran talks about Manganum
being powerless and yet finding itself in an ‘attack and defend’ state
– similar to other remedies in the first line of metals which includes
Ferrum – but all due to suppression from being overly dominated. Being
powerless means that feelings are harboured (can appear like Nat mur in
this), and when one accumulates then serious pathology is bound to
result.
One can see links to Palladium as well because Manganum is dutifully
compulsive, they need to help others and to be seen doing this and they
will become bitter and ‘poker faced’ (a common expression describe to
one needing Manganum) if they have not done enough for someone and
complimented on their work. They will have done everything but this is
still not enough (more parallels with Nat mur).
The inward suppressive stages of Manganum would be chronic eczema; bone
pains; liver disease; paraplegia; Parkinson’s disease – the ultimate of
a trapped spirit. Likewise you can visualise the deepening suppression
with these 3 remedies from power; magnet; radio activity; nuclear
activity.
Sublimation rules both Promethium and Neptunium, both ebbing and
flowing through exile, abandonment, intuition, confusion, psychosis and
schizophrenia, trying desperately to see the light but the voyage is
never as safe as Neptune promised.
You’re everywhere and nowhere, baby

Flying across the country and getting fat
Saying everything is groovy
When your tyres are flat
And it’s hi-ho silver lining

Though it’s obvious.

Re: mineral discussion
Dear Joy.
What a lovely piece of work!! Thanks so much for pulling all this together.
I was actually just thinking it was time to start addressing the periodic
table aspect of this line of remedies, and its relationship to Stage 8, and
you have done a great job of addressing these issues to get us started.
It's a fitting way to memorialize the suffering from the attacks in London.
