Re: Rubric question

Post by Shannon Nelson »

Mm, what a wonderful one!!!! May I be so lucky... :-)
In my pt's case there is *lots* of material to work with, I just can't
seem to make it "dance" for me... :-( And I suppose, even if I
find "the remedy", this person's response would likely be less
dramatic, as she's 82 and frail, but still--that is a wonderful
inspiration to have before me!
Thanks again!

Rats, that's what I'm using too, but I seem to have a "deficient" copy,
as it's missing *lots* of cross-referencing, and I think there are some
empty rubrics that shouldn't be empty... Maybe time to update anyway,
oh well.

Ooh yikes, I hadn't thought of that! (And should have...)
Doesn't soaking at least help with that issue, and/or what other types
of fiber might be preferrable? She definitely is having problems with
uptake, but there are a number of possible reasons in her case.

Never heard about the fact that soaking helps. Tell her to eat organic dried fruit - it tastes a lot better!!

A wonderful case Robyn.. If such an emotion could be found may well be
relevant. If not I would wonder about Alumina at 82 . Jean

Let me explain how the constitution results from paralysis of the intestines for me. I also have some questions about how I am handling the problem.

Causticum is my constitutional. I do not feel the urge for stool when traveling. This can continue for the duration of traveling so its a major problem then. Two minutes before arriving home, the urge comes with a vengeance. Causticum is homesick (2) and General Paralysis one sided (3). Sensory information is blocked on one side of the intestines (left) so I become constipated. Normally when not traveling there is also slight aching pain at the iliac crease near the descending colon that increases with gout. Causticum relieves the constipation while traveling.

Nothing else does except recently a New Zealand weed spinach called tsuruna (tetragonia) which is high in oxalate caused a day of runny none painful diarrhea. This tsuruna looks slightly poisonous but is sold in the market as food. http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/bushtuck ... reens.html After the day of diarrhea, I found out that Japanese boil it once and throw away the water before seasoning it. They are worried about minerals spoiling their delicate taste buds. They are not worried about diarrhea. I did not pre-boil. I looked all over the net for information on tsuruna and found only one reference to pre-boiling it. Anyway, I made a tincture of the tsuruna and it worked during my vacation. I have a tendency for kidney stones which is possibly aggravated by oxalate. Any connection with the diarrhea?? I am taking just a drop of it each time, so I doubt that I can do myself harm with it. Can the following symptoms be related: generalized paralysis in many joints as well as the intestines, the kidney's inefficiency in processing uric acid (thus gout in the big toe) and pain in the base of the lower abdomen where it seems to collect in the serous fluid after sleeping. I am wondering if I tried potentizing this tsuruna, might it have an affect on more than just the large intestines? Even the Causticum 1m does not seem to be taking care of the kidney weakness although it is better than when I started. I have thought of Oxalicum acidum which is also high in oxalates, has the motor paralysis.

Why didn't I take Causticum to relieve my constipation this vacation? I took Causticum 1M, my constitutional remedy, a month before and was wary of using it for the constipation. Should I have worried? I did not get any physical aggravations from the 1M because I had slowly brought up the potency from a much lower level and already went through the physical aggravations. It seems, I am having mental "aggravation" which is to say for the past month I have been I am mentally at my worst. Nothing very terrible. If I had taken Causticum would I have had to take 10M or would 1M have sufficed?

Blessings,

She can't eat fruit. In the past it aggravated candida problems (I'd
only guess at the specifics), but recently it causes her to lose her
balance and (almost) fall--any sort of sugar at all, even small amounts
of fruit. That's another symptom I haven't found a rubric for, other
than "sweets aggravate", which is certainly true.

Would it be "Boenninghausingly correct" to look at remedies which
appear in all of the component rubrics, "sweets agg"; "Vertigo,
tendency to fall (sideways)"? (I'm considering cann-s, which is in
"Vertigo, tendency to fall sideways", tho not in "sweets agg"; also,
she doesn't feel dizzy at these times, just loses her balance.)

Dear Shannon, if she really does get dizzy from eating fruit then that
is a very strange symptom and would have to be used but if other things
make her dizzy then it wouldn't be so high ranking. I would be tempted
to use the more general rubric 'fruit aggravates' or 'ailments from
fruit'. However if the vertigo is a result from a sugar imbalance then
other things might be going on - perhaps the liver function isn't too
good. In which case more details about stool would be useful, colour
especially as this will indicate any problem.

Mag carb for example has vertigo during a meal - so do any other foods
aggravate in this way with her

Mag mur has absence of the desire for stool, very disturbed digestion
(as do all the magnesiums), fainting and falling

Bryonia is badly aggravated from fruit

The ferrum group might be considered

Jean suggested Alumina - another good consideration. You need to open
up the case a bit to decide whether the sx are more generalised or
peculiar. Best wishes, Joy

Dear Ellen if you just want some ideas input, I would say that if the
Causticum is not curing and only helping when given then it might not
be the simillimum and another and better rx could be found. Even just
putting together - constipation whilst travelling; homesickness;
generalised one sided pain < with gout as a concommitant; kidney stones
- you will get quite a few rx.

Consuming a substance with high oxalate might also be interfering more
than helping. If a substance taken for constipation only causes
diarrhoea your intestines will be cross with you :-))

I don't know this particular spinach but many of them have a big uptake
of nasty minerals from the soil so this might be another reason for
boiling and discarding.

The symptoms you describe are all related because they all belong to
you and that is why I would reconsider the Causticum because you still
have these sx. At least stand back and re-assess your case.

Best wishes, Joy

Dear Joy,
I took the 1M only a month ago, so I am going to wait as I would if I were a patient. Maybe since I gradually worked up to this potency I need to take it more often. My mental state is very causticum. This is the problem with doing your own case, you don't know if your mental state is changing.
I am reviewing the case, in the slow way that is reserved for my own sx. Actually causticum is the only remedy to which I have had physical aggravations (not provings). The physical ameliorations are not a complete cure, but certainly better than when I started. My batting average is so much better with a real patient.
Never thought of spinach as having nasty minerals.
Blessings,
Ellen
