blood platelet disorder
Hi Friends,
Can I have your opinion on this.
My daughter has some kind of a platelet clumping disorder. She had a DVT
(deep vein thrombisis) about 8 years ago, due to birthcontrol pills given
to her for amenorrhea. She has not had hormones since, except she is now
pregnant, (we are delighted!), but the platelet disorder has returned
with the added hormones. We only found out she was pregnant by accident
when she threw one small clot in her leg and 3 clots in her lungs. She is
now on Lovanox (like heparin) to prevent clotting.
An "Indian" trained homeopath visited me a week or so ago, and suggested
I give her a 1M of arnica. Daughter is almost, not quite, 3 months
pregnant now, and this homeopath said Arnica would prevent both clotting
and a bleed. But, this is my child and grandchild, and I have no
impartiality. So, am coming to you to see what you think.
Since her 3 months date is coming up soon, I guess I should wait until
she passes that milestone. This is a much wanted child so trying
anything that might interrup this pregnancy would not be an option.
I personally have not known any contraindications for arnica. Her doctor
will be checking her clotting factor soon, so if we are going to do this,
I would much rather do it before her visit so she can continue to be
monitored.
Thanks, Maria
Ps. This is a miracle pregnancy, anyway, thanks to homeopathy!!!
Horray!
The only remedy she is currently on are Nat sulph tissue salts, and they
are working well for her.

Re: blood platelet disorder
Arnica will be safe for her and the fetus, but I am not sure of the duration of action of the remedy in this condition, in a pregnancy and in this potency.
However, there may be a genetic factor in this platelet problem - and it should be checked as a matter of urgency - this will likely involve the testing of other blood relatives, it can come down either the maternal or paternal line. The three month milestone is a major thing - this clotting disorder can become more problematic as the pregnancy progresses.
As this is a precious baby consider all options - homeopathy will of course help, as will Vitamin E (has an anti-clumping action). There are also a number of other remedies which may be beneficial. Your obstetrician should advise.

Re: blood platelet disorder
Hello Maria, may I ask in what way has the Arnica been suggested. Is this by
case taking or just a suggestion. If the latter I would be wary as the
condition your daughter has can be indicating a number of conditions and
more information on this should be necessary. I would urge you to encourage
your daughter to have her case taken fully. You also say she is taking Nat
sulph. What is she taking this for. If she takes the arnica as well that is
2 remedies at the same time which isn't good. Have her case taken properly.
Many thanks. Kerry

Re: blood platelet disorder
Dear Maria
During pregnancy there are a number changes, eg fibrinogen, factor 7, factor
10 and platelets are all increased leading to change in coagulation time
from 12 to 8 minutes. The capacity for clotting is also increased,
increasing risks of things such as thrombosis, embolism etc.
She needs to be in VERY competent hands and as already strongly suggested by
colleagues, her case needs to be thoroughly taken.
I wish you all my very best

Re: blood platelet disorder
I look forward to the reply to this as well but I think it is an
excellent suggestion, albeit an off the cuff one without knowing the
full case.
Female hormones and thrombosis are intrinsically linked and as the case
appears to have begun with amenorrhea and then possibly damaged further
by the use of birth control pills and then the original complaint
returns during pregnancy which hails a huge boost of hormones then
Folliculinum isn't such a bad suggestion. The dysfunction could well
lie somewhere within the hormone/blood sphere. Remember also that
Folliculinum is very closely allied to Lachesis - one of the big blood
regulators, as are all the snakes.
Best, Joy

Dear Joy
I dislike prescriptions without justification.
Hence my request for reasons.
When reasons or justifications are given, then we all learn - and that is
the whole point of Minutus.
Imagine in the college exam, the case is presented and someone just writes
the remedy name as the answer - even if it is correct, they will not pass
the exam.

Re: blood platelet disorder
Hello Liz, Kerry & Finrod,
and others who have answered.
Thank you for your thoughts.
First, she is most definitely in the hands of several allo Doc's who are
monitoring her quite carefully.
She is also in the hands of a competent homeopath (not myself) although
it is hard when we are homeopaths ourselves not to second guess what is
going on, and her homeopath gave the Nat sulph tissue salt.
Genetic, must be, but neither her father's side of the family or mine
seems to have the trait. Except I do have a sister that threw a clot on
birth control pills about 40 years ago, in the old days when the pills
contained a lot of hormones, and this sister having forgotten to take her
pills did a week's worth of them in one day. She later went on to have
two healthy children without a problem.
So, I mostly asked the question for myself, trying to gather information
and wondering if a dose of Arnica 1M would be safe for her and this very
much wanted pregnancy.
Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate your imput.
Warmly, Maria
