My experience is that the postage from India is really expensive. (I live in Australia)
I had done it a couple of times and not had time to work out what cost what.
More recently I ordered one book that I needed, from India. With postage it cost $29 Australian dollars. Weeks later I found I could have bought it for 12-13 dollars in my own town!

YEs there are block rates by the Indian postal service for different
weights.
Often it is cheaper to order 3-4 books at a time, it would cost the
same for shipping or just a couple dollars more.

Here are the details: My impression is that the postage by surface
mail takes upto 2 months only.

International Airmail
(Delivery within 10-14 business days.)
On orders worth $ 10.00 or under, add $ 15.00.
For orders of greater amount, the postage can vary between 60% to
110% of the order value. The actual postage depends upon the products
ordered and their value. You can check the shipping estimate after
selecting your order.
International Surface Mail
(Delivery within 2-5 months according to the destination.)
On orders worth $ 10.00 or under, add $ 12.00.
For orders of greater amount, the postage can vary between 30% to 80%
of the order value. The actual postage depends upon the products
ordered and their value. You can check the shipping estimate after
selecting your order. The shipping by ground is relatively cheap and
you can use it if you are not in a hurry.
Where do you ship from?
We send our books, bags & software primarily by Air mail from India.
The books are specially packed for International Air Mail and the
postage charges are the standard charges payable.
How to save on postage?
Since th postage is in slabs of prices and most books we are selling
are very cheap, we recommend that you buy books in such numbers that
you can get full benefit of the postage money. For e.g., Whether you
buy a book worth 1 dollar or buy 5 books worth 10 dollars, the
postage remains same -15$. So we recommend that you buy books
according to the postage slab as you will not be charged for postage
for extra books that you buy within a price slab.
