I had a patient in today with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome who I prescribed for constitutionally. Has anyone treated someone with this before and how did you get on. R.H.S. is a viral condition related to shingles which affects the face and cranial nerves showing itself as a prickling sensation.

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
Re: Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
Hi, Rochelle --
I haven't treated Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome myself, but Dr. Ramakrishnan has.
It's similar to Bell's palsy in terms of symptoms but caused by the
varicella zoster virus, as in shingles. For purposes of treatment, Dr. R.
believes there are no significant differences between Bell's and RHS. His
leading Rxs are: Aconite, Belladonna, Causticum, Dulcamara, Kali-carb.,
Lachesis, Rhus-tox., and Zincum. He uses these to treat the acute phase (if
the problem is of relatively recent onset), and once that is past he usually
switches to a constitional remedy.
Peace,
Cinnabar

Re: Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
Thanks for that. The physical symptoms she came with I actually removed using EFT. She had prickling tongue, pain in her throat which had a fiery red lump on the right side (tonsils have been removed) which extended to the ear which felt as if someone was sticking loads of needles in, pressure in the ear as if something is forcing out and things sound echoey + an aching pain down the back of her neck which goes to the back of the head and extends to the right ear. She said it is difficult to hold her head up and she wanted something to support her neck. The support word was interesting as this is the crux of the case. I gave her Puls. - bad childhood and just wants to be loved. I also gave her some Variolinum 15c as I found the red lump in the throat in the MM and it is a big Rx for shingles. I told her to take it bd if the throat pain returned. She has been taking 8 paracetemol with codeine a day and has been given amitriptyline which she intends to stop taking as it has sapped her energy and made her feel rotten. She has had this since returning from abroad in February but is stressed because her husband has had a breakdown.

Hi, Rochelle.
All other herpetic viral conditions respond really well to homeopathic treatment, including really refractory post-shingles neuralgias, so I don't see why this one wouldn't do the same. Take the totality and prescribe, and you should do well. Good luck. Rosemary
