Treating excruciating pain after a recent fracture oflumbar vertebrae

Post by Rosemary C Hyde, Ph.D. »

Sorry -- I can't get much more information than that. "Repertory speak" will have to come at a later date when she's recoverd somewhat and the pain has abated a bit. She's really "gorked out" from the pain and the meds, not able to articulate much, not able to think or perceive beyond the overwhelming pain.

I thank everyone who shared their experiences -- very helpful.

Rosemary

KAli Phos would be a very good possibility! Just palliative though.

During labour, I have very strong labour pains and includes the
mental state below - so I took a dose of KAli Phos 30c>
the pains acutally began to decrease and the labour seemed to stop
progresing - now that is not somehting I"m going to do again.
But the story from it is that it works in some way ...

Hi Rosemary,

I don't have direct experience with this situation, but the intensity
of the pain for me brings hypericum to mind. "Unreasonable" pain is
one of its indications, apparently apart from specific nerve
involvement. (I guess if there is *that* much pain, the nerves are
certainly involved!!)

Our "hypericum moment" years back came when my daughter carried her
(not-enough younger) brother on her shoulders, he squirmed, she fell,
and he landed on her head, driving a barrette into her scalp. Arnica
did nothing for her shrieking and shaking, so I tried hypericum on the
basis of "unreasonable pain" (I think that was the phrase anyway), and
it worked very well, and very fast.

So hypericum gets my "vote", FWIW.
Best,
Shannon

When ever symptoms are not clear,we can not get required qualification of symptoms, better prescribe to the person. In this case ,dependinding on her age (old age) U can try BARYATACARB -30 ,( or any oldage remedy like conium etc) in plus potency given every 1-2 hrs gap ,5-6 doses .stopping when ever she finds relief.
In case of an elderly man of 91 yrs age for his gait and constipation (with sound mental faculties ),I prescribed BARYATA CARB 30 ,3 doses at 3-4 hrs gap , he ws free from gait till he lived for another 2 yrs.
What helps is medicine

YEs, Hypericum is a very importnat consideration.
I don't know if you saw this post (below), Rosemary, as it bounced
back to my inbox a couple of days back ... Also I get on the Minnitus
website, but I'm shown to be offline... another mystery..

Hi Rosemary,
I looked at these rubrics:
BACK; PAIN; General; lying, while; amel.; back, on
BACK; PAIN; General; motion, on; agg.
GENERALITIES; PAIN; General; bones; periosteum
GENERALITIES; INJURIES, blows, falls and bruises; Bones, fractures;
compound fracture

the remdies are:
RUta, Rhus Tox, Phos, Arnica, Silica
You could counter check with thermal modalities, mental state and
other general.

BUt what is used here in India in such conditions is a combination of
Ruta, Rhustox and Arnica called 'RRA' in 30C (mostly).
one Repeats a combination 3-4 times a day plussed.

I don't use them together, but generally interchange remedies
depending on the most prominent modlaity and most prominent symptom
on a particular day - whether it is bone/periosteal pain, muscular
pain or tendon pain. SOmetimes 2 remedies may be indicated.
I repeat 3-4 times a day in 30C potency plussed.

Remember Rhustox can be a very good remedy for rest - in
bone fractures as well.
So hope this helps.
