Hi - too long ago to find the file easily (moved since). From recollection, the px had
symptoms of both Stram. and Syph., and the Stram. wasn't acting as deeply as I felt
it should, so hence the Syph., in a 30c only (I think). Erm ... I'm presuming the
animal was deceased ! If the cat wasn't dead before, it certainly was after ... :-/

PS: Yes, it was dead, of course....

Madam,
According to homeopathy in a given time more than one remedy can't be indicated. So both the Syph. & Stam. were not indicated.

Shannon: Here is a synopsis of the case:

Patient's mother called me regarding her 26 year old son. She was
worried about him. She explained that ever since he went off to
university he's become more and more distant from his parents. She also
called him a pathological liar and an obsessive spender. He's had
epileptic seizures since he was 18 months.

The patient is a clean cut (not goth) looking, well dressed young man.
He loves to speak and can keep telling me stories if I don't interject
and ask questions. What struck me most about him was his erratic
speech. He would almost avoid answering questions directly. I had to
ask him the same thing in different ways to bring him back to focus and
clarify what he was trying to say.

During the first meeting he told me he was very depressed about his life
and financial situation. He said he keeps spending money he does not
have. He was drinking a lot. His girlfriend had broken up with him.
This girlfriend had convinced him that his parents didn't care about
him and to stay away from them. To keep the relationship, he had
distanced himself from his parents. "I didn't want to believe her, but
she had a hold over me" he said. His biggest problem was telling his
parents how he feels and about his problems in general. He was afraid
of their reaction (fear of punishment)

Sleep:
Woke up at least once every night around 3a.m. to urinate
Grinds teeth
Drools on his pillow
Talks a lot
Sleep walking as a child
Interacts with spirits - "last night I was petting my dead dog in my sleep"

Loves thunderstorms

Cravings for chocolate and meat
Aversion to smell of tuna and raw onions - can get sick

Fears:
Snakes
Death
Being confronted by spirits (when I asked him about this he said spirits
visit him all the time) "I leave my bedroom door open and wonder if a
spirit might come in. I'm interested, yet fearful"
Being followed

I combined his fears, love of alcohol, desire to hide, predisposition to
lie, obsessive behaviours, epilepsy, erratic behaviours, feelings of
separation, fascination for death and spirits, I prescribed Syph LM 3 -
5 days in a row

During his 2nd visit he told me he was more open and able to express his
feelings to his parents. He said he was more interested in things and
not as depressed. He said he met a girl "we have so much in common, she
too has a fascination for graveyards!"

I gave him sac-l

During the next meeting he told me he started post-graduate studies in
drama and acting. (this is a huge syph characteristic - acting and
wanting to 'hide')
He had lost 20 lbs and working out regularly
He was happier, and has a good relationship with his brother (which was
quite strained before)

I saw him a couple of more time and gave him a few more doses of Syph
LM3 again. The last time I prescribed Syph 1M - once. I have not seen
him since.

I hope this helps.

Hi Praveen,

I'm asking in general, rather than in regard to a specific case, altho
there are several people I'm wondering about. Maybe I can pull more
specifics together to present later, but basically I'm just trying to
better understand syphilinum and its uses.

Thanks,
Shannon

Yes - thats the book, and yes Goth is good. You could say Bowie started the trend
with his ziggy stardust look maybe ? (Ok, a bit of a stretch...) :-)

Has anybody used this remedy or treated patients with it?
I am curious because Philip Bailey's description of it in his book
fascinated me but I don't see a lot about it elsewhere. It really
resonated with me (unfortunately!) and I began to wonder if many with
chronic lyme might be more vulnerable to it if syphilinum is part of
their picture.
I have lyme and have just been educating myself about homeopathy. I
haven't yet found a homeopath in my area (NY).
Peter Alex wrote an interesting book about lyme, in which he posits it
as an emerging miasm but compares it to the syphilitic miasm. Of
course each case he treated required its own remedies.
Thanks for anybody who can contribute any thoughts or experiences.

Hi Jill Syphilinum can also be called Leueticum so you may find out more under that name also. Regards Pauline
