Get vol. 2 of Herscu's book on provings and read it. Lots of info.
You will ALWAYS get symptoms, especially from mentally susceptible
people. It is, therefore to carefully look at the symptoms that come
up and take away all those that DO NOT belong to the remedy.
If you took NOTHING and then took notes about how you did all day, I
bet you'd come up with a bunch of symptoms-- all YOU none of the
remedy.
Herscu's book lays out the history of provings and problems with them
better than anything else I've read.

Thanks for that reference Julian :-)

I think that when someone takes a potentised pill in a proving, then
pretty much all of there experience is going to be related to the
proving. Of course it is essential to be vigilant for the exceptions
to this.

A simili - if you take a sheet of coloured glass and all that you see
is through this, then even things normally around will take on a
different hue. Seeing the glass as a proving, It is the new perseption
and the persons response to that that is the essential thing to look
at in a proving.

Eg a person who is normally depressed is likely to have a slightly
different take on their depression. Another eg, when the post person
comes as s/he does every day, what is noted by the prover is likely to
be coloured by the remedy substance.

An individuals symptoms in a proving *can* be very significant, even
if not experienced by other provers. To choose only symptoms that many
provers have is prejudicial, and so can lead to missing the *whole*
picture or even the essential key. Just putting the other side ;-)

One of the best descriptions I have come across for Sac Lac is
a `blank sheet' on which the patient can write their own symptoms.

So as well as taking a prover's case prior to a proving, it would
also be interesting to ask what their reasons for taking part in the
proving were eg `I am looking for a new experience',' I am doing it
because the rest of the group are and I will feel left out if I
don't', `It's my duty to homeopathy', etc etc. And to delve into
the `sensation' behind that expression.

Provings are often only done on say 15 people. They can hardly be
called random, frequently being drawn from the organiser's social
group, patients, students etc.

I regard the intention of those drawn to any particular proving as
hugely important. In fact the reason and the `sensation' behind
taking part in any proving could produce very relevant information.

Teresa
