Dear Shannon,

The theory of 'spontaneous creation' had its origin in
ancient Greeks. The first opponent of this theory was
Francesco Redi, the italian biologist (1668) and
finally the theory was scientifically rejected
following Louis Pasteur's findings in 19th century.

No, but that's not what I'm thinking of... The one I'm trying to
remember the name of was developed only in the past decade or so, and
is I think rather "cutting edge". But not *so* new any more--someone
on the list must know what I'm talking about! "Pleomorphism" is the
term he uses to describe the changes from one state to another... It's
not *really* the same as spontaneous generation, because the organisms
are not *really* coming into being from nothing; but it can at times
seem that way when a benign and inconspicuous form morphs into a
troublemaker.

Interesting discussion. Hahnemann's original thinking about pathogenic influences meeting individual susceptibility as a basic cause of disease seems totally valid, today more than ever (as new scientific evidence pours in of the infectious cause of more and more chronic diseases that previously were not ascribed to micro-organisms.)

However, I think we have a lot more questions than answers in this discussion. I guess one question is does anyone have a convincing example of a patient becoming ill without showing any miasmatic pattern to the illness? Another question would be does anyone have actual evidence of the transmission of miasmatic influences from a known disease of an ancestor (e.g., tuberculosis, syphilis, etc...) ? The dismal lack of accuracy of individual family history back more than a generation or two has always led me to assume (I have no idea if this is accurate) that probably everyone somewhere in their family background had ancestors with all the miasm-causing diseases. The fact that our non-human companion animals do not appear subject to the same diseases as humans (although they undoubtedly have their own analogous ones), yet get similar or identitical chronic diseases treatable by the same remedies as work for people, raises another interesting question in my mind about the actual existence of miasmatic grafts as the root cause of chronic disease in humans, in my opinion.

Dear Shannon,

Ooops! Sorry ... at first I thought you're talking
about spontaneous creation.

Pleomorphism was comprehensively introduced by Bechamp
and Ernst Almquist about 100 years ago.

Dear Shannon,

May be you mean 'Karl Horst Poehlman' the contemporary
Australian researcher in the field of Pleomorphism.
This is about last 10 years!
