Post by vr_homeopathy »

Can anyone recommend a good place to order remedies in the US?
Especially to order poppy seed size pellets for medication?

thanks,

Vera,
go to Washington Homeopathics, wwwhomeopathyworks.com. Their catalog has
pictures of the different sized pellets--a major consideration if you want a
specific sized pellet. What one supplier calls #20 pellets, for example, may
be another supplier's #10. I've had that happen more than once.
Good Luck,
Marybeth

now THAT shouldn't happen! a #10 pellet is called such because 10 of
them in a line make 10mm. 10 #20s in a line make 20mm. THAT is why
they are number that way.

Marleen and all,
I don't have the catalog, they faxed me the page from their catalog and I
chose the pellet sizes I wanted from the grainy fax picture. You can call or
email them to get a copy of their catalog, I've found them very easy to work
with.
FYI, I have pellet samples from a supplier, Paulaur in Cranbury, N.J.
888-398-8844, that calls their large pellets, like a large BB, "5/6" size.
I have no idea what that means.
Keep in mind also, that there is a difference between the straight lactose
pellets and the lactose-sucrose pellets, which are firmer. I prefer the blend
because I've had the lactose ones start to fall apart after medicating, even
with the 85% alcolhol medicating potencies.
And Julian, the lack of standardization shouldn't happen but does. I have
three lots of pellets, from three different suppliers (reputable suppliers
that advertise in that wonderful, informative publication, Homeopathy Today ;-)
that are all the same size and each supplier called them by a different name.
Go figure that one out!
And even when I tried to get specific and asked for the pellet that is
"poppyseed-sized" or "mustard seed-sized" or "BB-sized" didn't work. I have ended
up with a significant collection of pellets, most of which aren't the sizes
I wanted. And those puppies aren't cheap either. GRRR.
Cheers!
Marybeth

Hi Marleen,

In making LMs the size of the pellet matters, but for general purposes
it doesn't. Remedies have been administered all sorts of ways, even in
powders and on blotting paper!

Hi Shannon,

thanks for the answer, are you in England? do you know the dolisos pellets?
if yes what size would you call
those? #20 ?
Why does it matter in LMs?
i do understand that the bigger the size of pellet the more remedy liquid
is absorbed so the bigger the dose,
i also know yes that Hahn says poppy size i just want to understand better
in what
kind of situation one would choose a #10 or a #20

No, I'm in US, tho have gotten remedies from Helios and was enchanted
at the range of choices they offer! :-) I usually buy from
Hahnemann, who offer potencies thru 30c on, er, medium-sized globules.
I forget what number size they call them, but it's the same as I've
gotten from Boiron and Standard... and higher potencies in poppy-seed
sized ones. But I've also seen it done *all* sorts of other ways! I
have seen no significant difference in effect between one pillule and
several, nor between a single poppy-seed pill and a single larger one.

I making LMs it matters simply because part of the dilution process
(which determines the potency) involves putting a single medicated
poppy-seed sized pellet into a specified amount of diluent. If a
different-sized pill is used, the dilution ratio will be changed--which
would *not* mean that the rx would not work just fine, bu lessens the
standardization and precision (what you have won't *really* be an LM,
quite). In a pinch I wouldn't (personally) worry about it, but IMO
it's useful to aim for that standardized starting point when feasible!

But for buying a prepared remedy, I can't see any basis for choosing
one size over another other than aesthetics or convenience--but I'll be
interested to hear if anyone has further thoughts!

Best,
Shannon
