Funny throat symptom

I'm wondering what rubrics might be useful for this, other than "Throat,
food lodges in"? (It contains some possibilities, but nothing that excites
me.)

She says that over the past couple of years she has started having trouble
(only sometimes) swallowing pills, it sometimes seems as tho they get stuck
in a clump at around the area of the throat-pit. Possibly sometimes lower,
as she describes times when the "lump" causes feelings of severe discomfort
and pressure at what looks like the level of the thymus? A few inches below
the throat-pit.

She describes a few occasions where plain ol' food apparently got stuck at
the level of the throat pit, extremely uncomfortable, and trying to wash it
down with water only made it worse. Several times she wound up "belching"
up the food, along with the water that was supposed to be washing it down,
before the remainder finally went down.

I see rubrics such as "throat, stricture of the esophagus" (would that refer
more to the area above throat pit?) and "Stomach, regurgigation of food"
(but doesn't that refer to vomiting?)

I would think that a pharyngeal or oesophageal pouch would have to be
considered. Could this be treated by homoeopathy alone???Jean

Pouch possibly congenital enlarging slowly when it becomes distended.
Maybe there is no pathology but a larynoscopy or endoscopy to clarify

Hi Shannon

The rubrics you choose will be determined by whether or not the dysphagia is
an unobstructed one or and obstructed one and its cause.

Eg., unobstructed dysphagia can be due to various mechanisms and can even
have an emotional component and obstructions causing changes in the throat
passage and/or esophagus can be due to narrowing, swelling, enlarged thyroid
gland or dilated artery among other things.

As Jean mentioned there may be a pouch/diverticulum, but there is likely to
be regurgitation on bending etc. and bad breath with that condition - but
not necessarily. This condition is really only correctable by surgery.

Gastro/reflux problems are often associated with dysphagia and all these
need to be taken into account.

Has she been to her GP and has she had an endoscopy?

anyone privately)-- I'll tell her to have her doctor check whether there's
any visible reason.
I really appreciate these thoughts, as they had not crossed my mind. (And
should have, I realize!)
