Somewhere I recall reading of a western physician traveling in India who
deliberately gave himself a tapeworm as a way of inocculating himself
against pathogens from food and water--said he was able to eat or drink anything he
wanted without once getting sick. After the trip gave himself something to
expel the tapeworm...and lived happily ever after...So this may have something to
do with your curious rubric.

It is indeed curious but I cannot find anything in the materia medicas about
this ­ can you give the attribution and post what is written.

The famous opera singer Maria Callas is known to have eaten lots of raw meat
to keep up the worm residents, she claimed it kept her thin and beautiful!

I don't have RU and don't know how it's set out, but is this rubric not just
saying worm complaints felt in the stomach are ameliorated by Cocculus?
Cocculus has the sensation as if a worm is crawling in the stomach.

Dear Joy and Chris,
Thank you for your replies. The insertion of this remedy in this rubric is attributed to Boenninghausen (the number 5 in square brackets), but it is due to the fact that all the modalities sections (as well as side, time and location sections) in all the chapters of RU are Boenninghausen’s rubrics.
I too have searched all the MM on cocc. and didn’t find anything explaining this enigma. Giving up on it.
