My question about data bases is one based out of curiosity. I am a parent
of a sick child who is just beginning this new journey. I was simply
wondering what a homeopath (such as ours) might use to help clinch the
decision for a particular remedy once he or she has made such a deduction
based on intuition, experience, and expertise in homeopathy. That's all.
Nothing more than that.

Have you asked the homeopath? Sometimes you can learn a lot from
learning the remedy (and if it was prescribed successfully) read
about it in a materia medica.

Hi Nancy,
Glad you have sought out a homeopath.
Yes, there are many databases and some homeopaths use them and some don't.
Some use the old fashioned books
Hopefully it is more than intuition that is used. The practice of
homeopathy requires a very solid base from education and study. Intuition
comes into but only on top of a solid base.
As many have said, it is just a tool
The homeopath takes the case and then evaluates everything about it and
eventually comes up with symptoms that they feel express what needs to be
cured and the significant symptoms (and that is difficult to explain and
what takes years of schooling and experience to learn). Those symptoms
then are use to find what we call rubrics (the language in the repertory -
or index of symptoms). Some would use a book and look them up and some
would put them in the computer program. Either way, the homeopath will
then come up with a group of remedies to then look up and study in the
materia medica. The repertory or computer programs are just ways to narrow
the field, get you in the ballpark so to speak. To get you a group of
remedies to then look at. If none of those sound appropriate the homeopath
then reviews the symptoms chosen and the case. So it really is just a tool
and NOT all the symptoms are entered as that wouldn't help us at all. We
have to find the symptoms that express the case and that is beyond
explanation in an email or lesson or two.
Hope that helps.
