Yes.

I was fortunate to have my first homeopathic training through
Millersville and the NCH.
I had two weeks of "constitutional" types delivered by Catherine
Coulter-- essentially, her book before it was written.
I was enthralled. And I saw ME in almost all the remedies-- the most
likely candidates were Sulphur, Arsenicum, and Phosphorous.
Then I had my case taken by a knowledgeable homeopath. He sent me a
remedy with NO indication of what it was. I took it. It helped a
great deal.
At the follow up he asked what I thought he gave. I suggested
Arsenicum. He said (wisely): Yes. I saw that in you. You really
wanted it. But your "arsenicum" part is healthy. You like details.
You like making lists. You like keeping records. But NONE of that is
your pathology. It is simply who you are. If you were up all night
trying to scrub out the spot on the floor... well, THAT is pathology.
I did NOT give you Arsenicum."

And so it has always been.
We ALL have pieces of all the remedies. The question is to find the
pathology and to treat that-- irregardless of what the "essence" is
that is floating on the top.

Same doc treated a friend of mine. Did a snap judgement (bad idea).
Saw Sulphur and gave it. No effect. Follow up? Gave it higher. No
effect. Second follow up? Re-take the case and LOOK at it. Curative
remedy was Graphites.
So much for essences.
No gold headed cane for me!

THANKS for that

EXACTLY right - you aren't treating the healthy parts.
I think this is the essence right here of a lot of what goes wrong in this
day and age.

I am not so sure about "we all have pieces of all the remedies" and would
disagree that 'essences' float on top, but what has essence prescribing got
to do with just plain old BAD homeopathy. Please don't mix the two together.
Homeopathy is only as good as the practitioner, regardless of methodology.

Best wishes, Joy

My book is called "THE FACES OF HOMEOPATHY". It is available from
most homeopathic book-sellers. It is about 600 pages. I put it
together over a period of 20 years to carefully explain the history
of homeopathy (mostly in the USA) and to bring to the public the
issues that are usually burind in the other literature (journals,
transactions). I do it, in some cases, by discussing the *people*
involved ("the faces") and how they interacted in the whole scene.
Harry Coulter's book, "Divided Legacy", stops in about 1914. Martin
Kaufman's book "Homeopathy: The rise and fall of a medical heresy"
stops in 1965. My history comes right up to 2000. It describes the
really important part-- that of the failing of the schools, the
opening of the AIH by Dunham, the decline, and the steep decline
during the 1920-60s.
The book lists at $80. It is hardback, and filled with illustrations.
It was published in 1999.
The other book I have is called "The Heritage of Homeopathic
Literature." It is a bibliography of about 900+ books published about
homeopathy since 1805.
