I am still unfamiliar with the book you reference. Might I have the title? Is it your only book or should I seek it out amongst many bearing your name? I noted your friend's "pet peeve" reference. It's emblematic of the very theme I was expressing, where homeopaths tend to criticize each other especially in common lists such as this. In that instance he chose one sentence written in professional jest out of hundreds on point, and writes a chapter about "those types of homeopaths who aren't capable of constitutional prescribing, but he took a course under... etc." It's impossible to prescribe on the basis of one rubric, anyway. Yet he does exactly what he accused me of doing. Everyone wants to be the guru. I despair sometimes of the lack of common courtesy in members of our profession. In his defense, however, he did provide some good information about pathological constitutional prescribing. Very interesting. I don't know Ms. Coulter, but I do know her step-son and ex-husband. I do have a high regard for her.

If you chose to post your book title, I'll examine it and the references you made to Cook's writing especially, since I am interested in the period in which my grandfather practiced. As to your cross interrogation about his practice and minutiae about him; can't say. He's been gone these past eighty years and unfortunately so is my dad and his brothers. No one to ask. Besides, it struck me as equivocal to the point being discussed.

Please post the last word so we can close this dialog as it seems to be taking on some juvenile hostility that rather defeats the point of such exchanges since they spread smoke instead of light. And again my salutations to you for the exchange.

It's been my experience over the years both as a homeopath and as just a regular observer of my fellow travelers that people tend to attribute their own feelings and motivations to others. It often causes unpleasantness when it could be avoided by simply asking a question or two to clarify intent.

I didn't label Julian as an Arsenic constitution, I asked him whether he was. I was interested in his constitutional type since there were such clear impressions given by his written word. Even so, what's wrong with Arsenicum? If it is ones constitutional type, it doesn't make that person better or worse than a Phosphorus or a Pulsatilla. Some of my friends are like the Felix's of the world, which expresses to me some signs of Arsenicum (the orderliness, the grooming, etc.) Why would Julian take umbrage at the question? (He didn't express any anger about the question). And why would you? I'm more of an Oscar so I accept it and hire a housekeeper to keep me a bit tidy. I really don't rave at the better organized Felixes who can keep order on their own.

In my opinion, your expressed level of emotional involvement seemed to be inappropriate for the exchange that was underway. Were you my patient and emotively flew off the handle like that, I would pay close attention to your bladder, liver and gallbladder. But of course, you're not my patient, and in fact I know you not at all except for what you revealed about yourself with that note.

I totally agreed with your conclusion that we should concert our efforts toward healing and compassion. Somehow having seen you append that ending to the rest of the message seemed rather ahomeostatic. I did not sense any feelings of compassion or desire to heal directed at me. Instead, I felt (and I could well be wrong, I often am) that you dismissed me, not bothering to ask if I had an ulterior motive, and assumed, wrongly, that I was labeling your friend and doing it with something unpleasant.

If I have misjudged your intention, I apologize for suggesting otherwise.

But my whole spiel was to point out that lists such as this seem to be divided at least partially into ill humored factions. I visited this list a few years ago and their was a lot of unpleasant emails being exchanged. I did not, nor do I now understand why like minded people should be uncivil and unkind to one another regardless of their station in this art, or in society generally. Most of the true homeopaths I know are like most seasoned veterinarians -- kind and tolerant. In the past couple of decades, I have found more sincere interest in homeopathy's promise from many of our allopathic brothers and sisters than new students and practitioners of homeopathy. That is a great puzzlement.

As a result of seeing those unpleasant exchanges those years ago, I decided that subscribing to this list would be emotionally innervating, so I chose to not stay with it. Too bad, because I sense that there are many people here who'd love to create synergistic relationships if they didn't have to be constantly wary of bruising someone's ego.

To the extent you share your knowledge and experience with your peers and help them and yourself to your avowed goal of shedding compassion and healing on suffering humanity, you have my blessing.

Dear Tom,

As a beginner, it has been an important lesson to learn that the pathologies of every remedy are not a judgement about the person. Getting behind an annacardium, a hyo etc. and understanding what makes the pathology coherent is such a wonderful study. It is not a full study of the spiritual person. The person and what it takes to vibrate at the highest level of who we are is beyond the pale of homeopathy. We can only support in that journey.

Changing the subject, you mentioned that you would look at the liver, gall bladder and bladder. Do you mean organ remedies or are you thinking in terms of Chinese herbs? I am having trouble coordinating Chinese medical theory with homeopathy (not that they grew up together). I have all kinds of herbal stores, but for the most part they are not used because I don't vombine tongue and pulse readings with homeopathic interviewing. I would like to find someone who does that successfully. My teacher encourages the patient to use western herbs, but is against using Chinese herbs during a treatment because they will make the reading of the remedy less clear. Western herbs he does not encourage until the case is completely cleared or when he is in a bind with aggravations. I think he just does not know Chinese herbs.

The emotional components of these organs are Liver = anger, Gallbladder = Rage, and Bladder = pissed off. There are no one-way streets in psych/somaville. A bad liver leads to anger and anger leads to a bad liver. Ditto for gallbladder and rage, etc.
To me, the middle path was provided by the discovery of bio-linguistics (Voll/Curtin). EAV (Electo-Acupuncture according to Voll) medicine uses the acupuncture points to analyze relative organ/gland/system strength and then can be used (just as can kinesiology) to determine in advance the efficacy of a homeopathic remedy, a Chinese herb, an allopathic drug, or whether a song or a prayer (among many other modalities) might act curatively. Classical homeopathy works by converting the language of the patient into the language of the remedy as translated by the provers and clinicians experiences). EAV does it directly by translating the language of the remedy into the language of the therapy by use of the electrical response of the body of the patient. One advantage is that we can treat comatose patients or patients who share no common language with us. I frequently treat patients who speak little or no English with this system.
I think we all wish not to tangle our cases. Often however, palliation or even surrendering a case (ie. calling 911) is preferable if the patient is at risk. We can untangle when we have a stable patient to work up.
