Re: celibacy/continence?
Continence means Abstaining from sexual intercourse; able to retain
voluntarily.
Generally continence is used with reference to continence of sex, urine or
stool, but in repertory this is mainly abstinence from sex.
In chapter female genitalia, there is a rubric Congestion - ovaries,
continence from. Here, it means there is an increased congestion of ovaries
due to abstinence from sexual intercourse.

Re: celibacy/continence?
Thankyou for this added perspective. But then in your understanding what is
the difference between "continence" and "celibacy"? If they are the same,
them I'm confused about why certain remedies appear in both, even from same
author?
Thanks!

Re: celibacy/continence?
Actually, he thinks that if he doesn't ejaculate, he won't be an evil person (delusional...). Rosemary
Re: celibacy/continence?
Very often, with delusional states as you describe, you get both a physical
manifestation and an emotoional one as well - i.e. cannot/will not ejaculate
being the physical, and the sense of evil being the emotional. One needs to
explore both levels as sometimes it is easier to find the simillimum through
the physical sx because the emotional one can't be taken at face value. You
might have to plough through all the relevant rubrics

Re: celibacy/continence?
Hm, that's interesting. I have always understood it to mean "abstaining
from sexual intercourse", by which definition many (in some places most!)
unmarried men are no longer celibate. But there are some (few!) couples who
have (what have been called) "celibate marriage".
My dictionary includes both definitions, "Unmarried or sexually abstinant,
esp. by vow." I wonder which is meant in the repertory... Ailments from
being unmarried could cover a *lot* of ground, much of it having nothing to
do with problems from abstaining from sex. But I suppose that's another
possible explanation for why there are two rubrics, which share some
remedies...
Thanks,
Shannon

Re: celibacy/continence?
Celibacy - the rubric is ailments from celibacy. So you have to use this rubric more in chronic sense eg. a unmarried man aged 45 comes to you .. a long standing abstinence ..... Remedy featured in this rubric is conium
continence means temporary abstinance from sex ..... eg wife is seriously ill, and you dont have sex .... so it is more in acute sense ... remedies for sadness from continence are along with conium .. bell, stram, hyos ... acute remedies.
