A collection of Experience/Comments/Opinions from prior list discussions on
inimicals:
According to George Vithoulkas and Misha Norland, if you give one of a
pair of inimicals and it doesn't act, you do not need to worry, just
give the other one if it is indicated. It is when the first HAS acted,
that you (theoretically anyway) need to avoid prescribing an inimical as
the next prescription, as it might screw up the case.
------------------------------------------
I think it is important to make the point that the relationships booklet
refers to what decisions to make AFTER the remedy has acted.
If the remedy has clearly had no action then the notion of inimical does
not arise.
However the similarity between apis/rhus or phos/caust are such, that they
can severely aggravate the patient quite unnecessarily.
This is what you are cautioned against.
Tony Pinkus/Ainsworth
--------------------------
If the former remedy worked well, try to avoid following with an 'inimical'
if a remedy was given without benefit, following with an otherwise
inimical remedy may less likely prove 'inimical' because inimical to
what ? ? ! ! nothing worked yet so there is nothing to be inimical to

First one needs to be sure that Causticum is indeed not the right
remedy. This will take time and careful observation of any shift becoming
apparent in the way the VF expresses itself. Depending on the result of
this, there are two possibilities:
(1)Causticum was not the right remedy, it didn't do anything or nothing
much. In this case there would be no problem following with Phosphorus.
If you read your Kent carefully, he points out that "only if
Causticum actually caused a change in the VF will Phosphorus be a
problematic remedy to follow." In my own experience, if Phosphorus is
clearly asked for, I would give it (Causticum or no Causticum). I may be
more careful with potency selection, but the ultimate authority as to which
remedy is needed at what time is the patient itself.
(2)If Causticum did indeed produce a noticeable change in the patient's
condition, then I would stick with this remedy until I am sure it can't do
anything more. Even if you think there are better remedies to give, if the
first one acted beneficially stick with it. Don't change remedies too
frequently. It is bad practice to "fine tune" your prescription and start
giving more and different remedies in quick succession.
Hope that helps, Chris Kurz

Re: inimicals
Thanks Lynn
This advice is worth its weight in GOLD.
Kent says quite correctly, that NEVER desert a remedy that has done some
good.
After when you think the action has stopped, always go up in potency to make
sure that this remedy is no longer required.
The unnecessary changing of a remedy that has acted and done well can make
the case very difficult to resolve.

Re: inimicals
Does anybody have a good explanation why Psorinum and Lachesis are
considered to be inimicals? I've tried to get some solid explanations that
justify this precept, but haven't been able to find anything specific...
much less convincing.
Thanks,
Caro.

((( Cannot offer anything but speculations. It is an interesting question,
regarding why rx are inimical in general.
A few speculations:
BOTH ANIMAL RX:
These are both animal remedies (Psorinum scabies mite; Lachesis
bushmaster/Surukuku serpent venom). So there is some commonality regarding
category of the source.
BOTH CONNOTING BY NAME AN ORIGIN POINT OF SUFFERING:
If mythological/thematic resonance has validity in the question regarding
the general valence of these substance analogs and their alchemy (which I
would personally favor, as it seems that nothing is named
accidentally)--then both substances have a connection with origin of
suffering. Lachesis is, if I recall correctly, the first of the 3 fates
(Lachesis weaves fate; Clotho clothes it; and Atropos cuts or ends it).
Hahnemann ascribed to psora some measure of originating valence regarding
chronic disease (although Kent ascribed even more that Hahnemann did not
intend), and Psorinum was named as representative of that viz the following
from Peter Morrell's article on Psorinum
http://www.homeoint.org/morrell/articles/pm_psori.htm:
"It took Hahnemann 12 years of the most meticulous observation to formulate
his Psora Theory. 12 years in which he was a very busy man, by no means
wealthy and father of a large and nomadic family. Perhaps the venom he
reserved for his critics was due to his conviction of the unique and
precious nature of his 'arcane' discoveries. He viewed homoeopathy as his
brainchild, his precious discovery and his gift to ailing humanity, and he
viewed himself as its sole guardian and patriarch.
I feel that he was right about Psora and in particular the following now
modified premises:
1. That the itch or scabies does produce a deep-seated and "congenital"
miasm, that is, an inner predisposition dormant or active and able to
produce clearly recognizable and predictable symptoms and complaints in the
individual and her or his offspring for perpetuity.
2. That the history of all human illness is traceable to skin diseases in
ancestors.
3. That all skin diseases are traceable to scabies in self or ancestors.
4. That possibly plague and certainly leprosy and elephantiasis are
closelyallied to Psora, in some, as yet, undetermined way, as portrayed by
Leviticus in the Bible.
5. That the word Psora does not come from the Hebrew "Tsorat" meaning a
groove or stigma, (equating it with "original sin" or spiritual downfall),
but that it comes from Psora, the Greek word for scabies.*) Being a great
linguist it is hardly likely that Hahnemann would have chosen an ambiguous
name for the theory that, to him, would ensure his immortal fame, and rank
him along with figures like Kepler, Pythagoras and Plato."
SYMPTOMATIC COMMONALITY (FROM SYNTHESIS 8) (common and exclusive symptoms)
There is a large overlap between these rx symptomatically. In the final

Re: inimicals
Learning all about remedy relationships (and that includes inimicals)
is quite an indepth study and would include those that work
harmoniously in following each other as well as those that have shown
to be inimical. You would need to source the original notes or
references to those notes, as to why one remedy is inimical to another
- there will be some clinical evidence somewhere that proved this
relationship to be inimical. There will be numerous articles, even
books, on this subject.
Some rx are inimical in acute spheres only, others in chronic.
Some homeopaths do not believe in this incompatibility but I guess
years of experience will gather much in this realm. If you do lean
towards this belief then you need to remember that often the
incompatibility is both preceding and following.
But if a rx is TRULY indicated then one has to ask why it shouldn't be
prescribed.
Best wishes, Joy

Re: inimicals
My understanding is that the inimical remedies are most similar in their symptoms. Prescription of first one might have changed the susceptibility. If followed by inimical Rx. will cause repetition and unnecessary aggravation/complication.
Complementary Rxs are similar but vary in their modality or concomitant.
Antidotes Rxs are partially similar. You may select among them as per the aggravated symptom.
I made a comparison of remedies related to Aconite, which I can send as attachment to individual requests.
BE HAPPY AND MAKE OTHERS HAPPY.
