Help with sore throat needed

Post by becklesfield »

Dear all

I am trying to find a remedy for a friend who is in great pain with
a sore throat, and due to go on holiday in a couple of days. I'm
very much a beginner in homeopathy and do tend to struggle with
repertorising so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've done my rubrics and had a good look at them, and also looked at
David Little's First Aid page, but I still feel uncertain about
which to choose.

Throat is red, very painful with inflammed tonsils
He feels like crying due to the pain and being ill before impending
holiday (he is going home to see his family and really needs this
break, emotionally as well as physically)
He has a headache and slight nausea too
All his muscles are aching
Pain is worse on swallowing
He has no desire for food or fluids, hot or cold
He is very hot, but tends to be like that normally
Glands very swollen
Swallowing hurts so much his eyes water
Worse in the morning
Started on left, now on both sides
Mouth and throat are not dry, lots and LOTS of saliva but no mucous
No cough, just sore throat
Pain came on gradually

From David's site the two that seem to mostly fit are Belladonna and
Sulphur. However, they don't jump out at me when I read the MM.
Nux-v seems to fit most of the rubrics I used, and he does have a
tendency to abuse drugs and get sick afterwards.

I'm very uncertain and would dearly love to be able to help him.

Thanks very much.
Becky

Hi, Becky: As you know, I'm no homeopath, but I'd try Bell, in a 30c,
for this. Try one dry dose, and follow it up with an MS dose of Bell
maybe eight hours or so later. If you get no results, we'll have to
look further. I've had success with similar symptoms with Bell.

It would be very unusual for a Belladonna acute to come on slowly! I don't
have my rep available now so can't check the symptoms, but the "LOTS of
saliva" brings Merc to mind, which can also be an awful, heckuva painful
sore throat. Might that suit?

What rubrics are you using?

Hi Shannon

Thanks for your reply.

He did in fact go to the dr's for antibiotics in the end as he was
so frightened by the force of his pain. However, as always it was a
good exercise for me and I would like to get something out of it, so
I've attached my rubrics. I couldn't find one for lots of saliva,
could you point me in the right direction?

Pain, swallowing, on
Pain, swallowing, on, liquids
Pain, extending to ear, swallowing, on
Pain, glands of neck
pain, burning, swallowing, when
SWALLOWING, difficult
Tonsils, swollen
SWOLLEN sensation
Pain, Glands
Muscles, Pain sore, bruised
Pain, stitching, muscles internally
Inflamed Tonsils
SWALLOWING, difficult, saliva
Weeping, pains, with the
Weeping vexation, from
Anxiety fever, during
Anxiety headache, with
Anxiety pains, from the

I do wonder if I gave myself too much choice in my list?

Thanks
Becky

Hi Becky

For beginners, Miranda Castro's book - The Complete Homeopathy Handbook -
is excellent
It has a repertory that is manageable and basically only allows you to do
what you are capable of (in most cases)
"I couldn't find one for lots of saliva,

Its under Saliva in Castro's book.............or under Sore Throat, With
saliva increased

Yes, probably too many rubrics, but with beginning and minor acutes
sometimes you can get away with it.
And Merc s should have come up in repertorizing with Castro's book.

You just said you used DAvid Little's site - the therapeutics - the area
with different remedies and their descriptions?
Not the best way.

Repertorizing with Castro's book would have worked

Sorry he had to resort to antibiotics...........as they are suppressive and
add their own layer of disturbance.
They don't deal with why he was ill to begin with - what caused the symptoms.
What was the disturbance. Not dealt with.

But good trying

look at salivation increased, thirstless, redness of
throat, and the direction left to right( tho as a last
resort) as central . Swallowing agg as a supporting
modality.

HI Becky
Interesting you should say Nux-v because it was
mentioned on a tele-conference 2 weeks ago that nux-v
was the genus epidemicus for the bug that was
circulating at this time, however "Lots of saliva"
would also beg to examine Merc and I would also explore
his emotional/mental state related to feelings
surrounding issues with his family as he anticipates
the "impending" visit (your words or his?), perhaps an
inner conflict. perhaps not at all but worth exploring.
Good Luck
