anxiety attacks
Could someone please tell me what causes anxiety attacks?
Or Panic Attacks where the person gets acid reflux, dreamy state,
heart palpitation, tingling in face and fingers, light headedness,
gas buildup, tightness around throat...? This lasts for a couple of
hours.
Thank You Colleen

Re: anxiety attacks
Panic attacks are the body's flight/fight mechanism gone awry. The psyche
perceives a threat, real or imaginary (as in time past reaction that has been
suppressed). The adrenals pump out adrenaline. Respiration increases with a
peculiar breathing pattern. The "in" breath is deeper and the "out" breath is
shallower. Consequently the lungs throw off carbon dioxide and the blood
becomes hyper oxygenized. The heart rate increases. Muscles tremble and contract.
An increase of lactic acid causes numbness and tingling. Hearing becomes
more acute. Visual acuity increases. Blood is shunted to the brain and vital
organs.
Your body is ready to save you from danger.
Because the really isn't a tiger chasing us, we can't "use" this hyper state
to preserve our life by running away or turning and fighting this threat. So
the body has these symptoms. Most panic states dissipate in about 20 minutes,
which is the timeline for the adrenaline to be exhausted. Though there are
"cluster" panic states that can last for hours.
The best relief that can be had is to physically relax all the muscles in the
body and to breath evenly. This allows freedom of circulation, reduces the
adrenaline response, and allows the blood gases to stabilize. And so the body
returns to a more normal state.

Re: anxiety attacks
Sometimes the stressor is physiological, e.g. low blood sugar! The adrenals
will kick in to raise the blood sugar by pouring out adrenalin, so you get
the benefit of needed sugar back into the blood, but you get the down-side
of feeling panicked. For some people just eating frequent, small,
high-protein meals is sufficient. For others, other steps might be needed
too. But whatever the cause, a well-chosen remedy should end them (and this
would definitely not be a do-it-yourself project!).
Let us know if you want more information about homeopathy or homeopaths!
And other than that, I would say also check out information about
hypoglycemia and adrenal support.
Best wishes,
Shannon

Re: anxiety attacks
Dear Carol and group,
That's a nice description. Seyle's description of chronic stress in general is similar except the body is in constant "flight or fight" mode. The suddeness and constant repetiion of these patterns distinguishes the panic attack. I would think of the following rubric as the main rubric. Would you cross it with a SRP (strange rare or peculiar) or something else very characteristic of the person? I would also look for the characteristic that differentiates this person's panic attack from others. What would your strategy be?
MIND - FEAR - sudden

I am a new student. I will be studying pathology with Dr. Rozenswcj. Right now I am packing up to move to Japan. I am doing my main course with the Toronto School of Homeopathy and have been doing a clinical study group with a local homeopath for the last two years.

Re: anxiety attacks
Are you asking about the physiological cause? Or the trigger? If the
latter, it can be anything that is perceived subconsciously as a threat.
Finding what that is will take a lot of probing -- gentle probing.

Yes, that's a nice description.
But................just to relax and breathe really doesn't help most
people, in my experience.
Have just gone thru this with my mother for months..........till we found
the right remedy, NOTHING worked - breathing in a paper bag, relax,
visualization, right food, be aware of blood sugar. And no, she didn't get
over it in 20 minutes.
And with my other patients who have similar, it is the right remedy that
cures.
So, I think this is a pretty simplistic way to look at it.
There are many exciting factors for the VF to exhibit symptoms that we call
panic states
Drugs (legal and illegal), vaccinations, chemicals in foods and
environment, and who knows what else...........that's why it is often
worthless to try to find the 'cause'. You can maybe find exciting factors
and remove them and the symptoms will go away. But many times you cannot
figure it out. Tried to figure out my own migraines for 15 years. Nothing
worked till the right remedy.
So, I really encourage Colleen to see a homeopath (or the person she is
writing about if it isn't herself). She could drive herself nuts trying to
'figure it out'. When all that is necessary is the right remedy to assist
the VF to dissipate the disturbance that is producing the symptoms that she
has.
