Re: Single UK register of homeopaths
As JW knows very well, many of the NZ homeopaths do practice other
modalities than pure homeopathy and do deviate from pure, unadulterated
classical thinking.
The point that was made, and I think that it is well covered in NZ, is to
make sure, by checking the educational background and/or requesting a test
and interview, that the foundations, the basics of homeopathy are sane and
well understood, well assimilated.
And again, as JW wrote, hammer in the message that the patient should know
what is offered/prescribed; it is not only good practice, it is simple
ethics and honesty.

Yes. The reality is that the register really does NOT know what
people are doing behind closed doors, and find out only when
something really inappropriate is done or someone complains.
I recall of one case in NZ where the practitioner advertised herself
as a "homeopath" and then had a whole thing in a local paper about
her using a machine to "balance people's energies." She was told by
the Register to NOT link the machine with homeopathy. When she did
not comply, she was dropped from the register.

Great idea. But there are problems. First, the school must want to do

They tried this in the USA through the Council for Homeopathic
Education. Not many were willing to cooperate. Each school is run by
someone who generally has no interest in cooperation with other
schools. If school A can get more pupils than school B, and if school
B folds-- then school A is happy.
I would hazard a guess that most of the educational programs in the
USA are NOT in compliance with state or federal education
requirements. I do not know about the UK where new schools are
springing up all the time.
I DO know that in NZ if you want to run a school you have to be
registered as a "private training establishment" with the Ministry of
Education. This means that someone can check to see that there is a
minimum of standards in place-- the facilities are tidy, the students
have a registered complaint procedure, the money is managed, the
books are kept, etc.-- all the stuff you need to run a business.
Now... if the school then wants to teach to the NZQA Diploma standard
in homeopathy, it must then show that it has the facility to teach
and assess to the standard.
The homeopaths here hope that anyone who has not met the criteria of
being up to the NZQA standard will NOT be allowed to call themselves
"homeopaths."
That said, each country is different. I see things which are being
taught as homeopathy, and I do worry....

Re: Single UK register of homeopaths
But at least with some registers like the one we are on you have a better fighting chance that you will get a reasonably classical homeopath rather than one trained at schools where polypharmacy is the norm.

But only for the original site visit and even then it is a poor situation
and doesn¹t match anywhere near the allopathic qualification process. I have
heard shocking stories. I think there is a lot of work to be done to raise
standards.

Dear Simon
What is the procedure form joining the new register if you are already a
member of another recognised registration body?
Is it other than filling a form and agreeing to abide by their rules? If so
that this would be normal and acceptable as a new contract needs to be
formed between the professional and the body.
Does it involve more professional vetting?

Good questions but that was not the issue I was raising-
What I was specifically concerned with was with references to
homeopaths that had ALREADY gone through the registration process with
a recognised organisation, and for which they had already paid i.e.
undergone a thorough vetting and paid for it already.

Re: Single UK register of homeopaths
This is why I educate people to the MAX about what is quality classical
homeopathy.
Wherever I go, online, in person classes, conversations, email lists.
Teaching them what classical homeopathy is they know and can make an
informed choice. We will never be able to guarantee quality of
practitioner with registries, certification, licensure - any of it.
It is about educating people to make an informed choice and be responsible
for that choice.
I refer people all day long to homeopaths in the US who are CHC and NASH
and supposed to be classical and they are not and many of them are not even
close to being good homeopaths.
That's my opinion

Yes again. Makes you wonder about what the certification is about.
This is not a new problem.
At the turn of the century there were about 12,000 in the USA who had
graduated from homeopathic schools. Only about 3,000 were members of
the American Institute of Homeopathy.
At the same time, the International Hahnemannian Association had
about 175 members, and suggested that there were about 800 in the USA
doing "real" homeopathy. And, even with that organization, there was
a split because some felt that the standards were not strict enough
so the "Society of Homeopathicians" was formed by about 20 folks.

Dear all,
as everyone knows homeopaths have to be checked up with great
regularity as they are not to be trusted, especially not after they
have blagged their way onto a bona fide register!
We really have to watch out for these crafty bastards and need a
special fund to to police these threats to the integrity of our art.
Please send your check to cover administration, postage, packing, and
your thought police exemption certificate (renewable monthly) to me at
