Ha! Ha ! I didn't get caught like Irfan.
For people like me from India who have never set foot
on English or American soil, novels and newspaper
reports are the hint providers for deciding the gender
of the names.
In 'Atlas Shrugged' of Ayn Rand, Julian was the wife
of Henry Rearden. SO I thought Julian was female.
In my nearby Kerala state of India, Joy is always male
in the Christian population.
I read one novel, in which shannon was male.
And , so was my impression till some careful reading
the websites of them, and cross references and own
admissions (shannon admission's of being a mother),
saw Julian's photo , and Sara referred to Joy as
"she".
Just bit my tongue!

LOLL--Yes!!!
Names are trouble enough within one's *own* cultural or social group, but on
a worldwide list, ferget it!
)) (And e.g. in US, some names, e.g.
Shannon, can be male, female, or surname. The first other "Shannon" I ever
met was an Irish Setter puppy!)
