Sorry for the delay in reply. I was out on a tour.
Actually the case won over the system so much so that the then state health
minister publicly acknowledged the (major) contribution of homoeopathy. More
over he ordered opening of "Homoeopathic Epidemic Cells" in all allopathic
hospitals including medical colleges. But this move we have opposed because
we have enough homoeopathic establishments here in Kerala. 2 govt owned and
three private Hom. Medical Colleges, fourteen District hospitals with IP
facilities and more than 600 Primary Health Centres etc. Now the said
epidemic cells are working through them.
Any body can see that in the last two years (esp. this year) the epidemic
prevalence as well as casualties are minimal here). As various allopathic
association themselves have claimed, govt. had done nothing to increase the
general preventive measures and hygiene of the population. Only some
superficial antimosquito campaign has been employed. Anti-rodent measures
are nothing. Still the disease rates are on the decline. This may even prove
that the prophylactics are working on a long term too, which of course needs
further study before a formal claim is made.
If you want there are other interesting scenarios also. We have worked on
Japanese encephalitis and Cholera epidemics earlier About eight/ten years
back. The out come of cholera was very funny. Our people (doctors and
volunteering students) distributed prophylactics as well as treated cases in
a particularly epidemic area of the state. The result was so good that the
allopathic association (they had such strong hold in the higher ups) raised
a "strong" protest against homoeopaths treating cases and the govt.
instructed us to do only prophylactic work, but not to treat cases!! This
was some years back. The cholera still breaks out in some or the other parts
but quickly abates under the efforts of all.
About vaccination, here we don't expect that much difficulty in keeping our
children from vaccination. May be because now a days almost all homoeopaths
have many allopathic friends and they consult each other. But once the pulse
polio come is the picture changes. In some areas even police action threats
were there against homoeopaths who doesn't give pulse polio drops to their
kids. But so far none relented to any such threats.
However I think it will be a long road till homoeopathic prophylactics are
treated at par with the allopathic one. For that first we have to
"scientifically" (??) prove that homoeopathy is not a fake/placebo. Whatever
counter arguments we can raise about it and whatever number patients we can
march in front of them, we couldn't establish a thing without this basic
fact. Because it is a scientific community and all the people from lowest to
the very height are so blinded. (I mean in understanding science). We are
taking this also in our plans and hope one day the efforts of all united
will bring out something.
For the time being in our country any body still have the constitutional
right to refuse vaccination to their kids, as far as I understand.
My hope is that "science will make a giant leap once it succeeds in
de-mystifying homoeopathy".
