Scirrhinum

Post by ewighton »

Hello all,

Can find very little in print or on the internet on Scirrhinum, is
there anything in the software that someone can offer? If only
Clarke had stayed around a bit longer.

Thank you, Elizabeth

I meant Burnett, actually but both would have good and don't forget Hahnemann.

Hello Elizabeth,

Found this - from Murphy

HOMEOPATHIC -- This cancer nosode corresponds to the cancerous diathesis, cancer of the breast with enlarged glands. Many such cases have been cured with this remedy by Burnett and many other homeopathic physicians. Scir. is a valuable intercurrent remedy to be given during the course of the broad constitutional treatment, enhancing and complementing the action of the other indicated remedies.
CLINICAL - Breast, cancer. Cancer. Glands, enlarged. Hemorrhages. Varicose veins. Worms.
Constitutions - Cancerous diathesis.
Modalities - The time of aggravation of Scir. is from 5 to 6 p.m. and irregularly on through the night.
COMMENTS - A patient to whom Burnett had given Scirrh. mentioned to him that it had caused the passage of an enormous number of thread worms. On this hint Burnett gave it with great success in many cases of this troublesome complaint. In inveterate cases where Cina and Teucr. have given little relief, Scirrh. has wrought a great change for the better.
COMPARE - (1) Con., Carc. (2) Worms, Cina, Teucr., Sulph., Sabal. (3) Sinking sensation, Sulph., Sep., Hell., Hydr. (4) Cancer, Con., Hydr., Phyt., Sang., Carc., Cund., Ars.
SOURCES - Clarke. Grimmer.
regards

GLenda

Dr. Ramakrishnan recommends giving this nosode instead of Carcinosin when the tumor is "stony hard."-- one finds this sometimes with glandular cancers. He also says to consider it in cancer cases where the liver is involved. One component of Scirr is a history of parasitic infections (hence the worms) -- but it's also useful with cancer patients who have spent time in 3rd world countries and have acquired various parasitic infections there (a surprising number of such cases actually surface, especially with lymphomas -- I would have thought it extremely unusual). A third feature of a case that makes me think of Scirrhinum is if the patient has a history of hemorrhaging -- nose bleed, menses, post-surgical, etc...

HC Allen, in his treatise on nosodes, says that Burnett was the great authority for its use and that he considered a sinking feeling around the navel as a keynote. Vithoulkas in his Materia Medica Viva discussion on Carcinosin says that Burnett did a partial proving of Scirrhinum on himself, but I can't find any mention of it in any sources by him. Chronically swollen tonsils with a lot of pain may also respond to Scirrhinum.

Clarke cites varices of legs and feet with purple points, as well as hemorrhages.

Burnett is the authority for this nosode. He proved it on himself and produced "a tremendous sinking at the navel," which he regarded as a keynote for its use. Scirrh. has aided the cure of many cases of breast tumor in Burnett's hands.

With Scirrhinum, Burnett cured a man of hard glands which appeared on the left side of the neck after other glands had been removed by the patient's brother, a surgeon. Hemorrhages and varicose veins of legs and feet with purple points, have also been cured by Burnett with Scirrh.
