Frodo/Ring/maintaining cause

Non-homeopath unlurking here.

Assuming you guys really guessed his remedy and it worked, wouldn't
the ring still be considered a maintaining cause as long as they had
it?

Yes but it tempts each Ring-bearer in a different way. Boromir is tempted in
a Nux vom. way, Sam a Calcarea carb way etc.

But also yes, presumably it would be a maintaining cause so long as they had
it! Which brings up an interesting prescribing point -- do we prescribe
upon those symptoms specifically caused by the maintaining cause? My
proposed answer: I think that yes, we do, because we *hope* that the remedy
may be able to prevail. But in this case that would seem unlikely!

In fact, Hahnemann in the Organon says that maintaining causes must be eliminated for a homeopathic cure to occur. (e.g. # 252).

But we won't always know what will *act* as a maintaining cause. For some
people e.g. eating wheat (or whatever) will act as one, and for others it
won't, etc. Will be Ring act as a maintaing cause? Wow, if it's that
powerful, probably! But could a well-chosen remedy help loosen its grip and
help the person recover from his "addiction"? Who knows -- I guess it's
"choose your reality" time, LOL!

Also worth noting -- to say that maintaining cause must be eliminated for
*cure* to take place is *not* to say that no remedy will work until it's
eliminated; to say you can't *cure* is *not* to say that you can't help!
