Need some ideas re women and homeopathy

Post by Nancy Siciliana »

Hi All,

I've been asked to write an article for a Women's studies journal whose
upcoming issue will focus on Women's Health. Much of the issue will be
filled with articles pertaining to conventional medicine...so I've been
asked to submit something about Homeopathy and Women's Health--any topic at
all, including the role of women in homeopathic medicine and the difference
this has made to women's health care in general. That is far too broad a
scope for me to handle...

I need to zero in on a good topic (right now, I just can't focus on one
thing I can research well, since I've, yes, practically waited until the
11th hour to start writing this thing....) I'm more inclined to write about
historic events, such as women's role in homeopathic medicine (school
creation, practice, provings, etc...) as opposed to just picking a
particular pathology and working at things from that angle. I don't think
I'll be writing for an audience with much background knowledge in
homeopathy, but I do think that those who study Women's Studies would find
quite a bit that is interesting about homeopathy's "secret" history.

Any suggestions on a good, interesting, topic? I'd appreciate them all!

Thanks in advance,
Nancy Siciliana

How about one on the awesome difference that some quick acute prescribing
skills can make to a harried mama? The quick blessing that arnica can bring
to those specific and common injuries, or of learning to use a little
acute-care kit for other injuries, cramps, colds etc.? That gives you an
"in" for talking about differences between single remedy prescribing versus
combos (your choice how you address the latter, LOL!), and understanding of
what's *outside* the range of home prescribing or self-prescribing skills...

Mm, I'm having fun thinking about it!
:-)

From the historical standpoint and Women's Studies, how about writing about
Mrs Hahnemann :-)

Best wishes, Joy

If you mean Melanie, then I certainly agree.

Hi Nancy-
How about writing the "feminine" nature of the system... much more
accomodative... patient guides the therapy by the symptoms that are
presented rather than physician using the intellect and tools to
arrive at a diagnosis...softness of the approach... more value given
to mental and personal symptoms than conventional medicine...
emphasis being on improving general health and throwing off
infections etc, rather on killing the invaders like a Terminator...
dealing more with the subtle vital force than any concrete
manifestation... going against the "conventional" wisdom where more
is better and mightier and emphasizing small is beautiful.."Magic of
the Minimum Dose"...dealing with and respecting individuals and
individualizing than branding everyone with the same diagnostic
brush kind of approach...how symptoms are sometimes metaphors and
analogic...

This would show the suitability of the medicine as a whole for a
more "Yin" approach to medicine.
Of course a brief mention of ML TYler, E.Hubbards, Melanie and
others...
How it tries to prevent dehumanizing in general and particularly for
women who are subjected to "scalpel" treatment for all ovarian and
uterine problems...

Hi Nancy,
How exciting! Just some quick thoughts.

Treat homeopathy as something that everyone should know about. Let them read the technical stuff elsewhere if it is for women's studies. Give them some references and landmarks. Spend more effort on the history and sociology of it Place it in the broader scope of women's history. Julian Winston just did a whole seminar on his take on the subject. Get some help from him. Get some help from a Women's Studies insider. You don't need to use their awful gargon, but at least know who the reader is.

Blessings,
ellen madono
