I have a student going to live in Scotland at the end of the year. She would like to finish her studies there.
Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences to share.

I cannot give you any personal recommendations, but I am aware of the
colleges in that part of the country.

There is the Scottish College of Homeopathy based in Glasgow, the principal
being Margaret Roy - telephone number 01899 220931.

There is also the Scottish College of Classical Homeopathy based in
Edinburgh, but I have never been able to make contact with them. The
telephone number I have is 0131 447 3060.

I am also aware that quite a number of people in Scotland attend the
Lakeland College, which is not in Scotland, but based in Bowness in Cumbria.
I know that this is an excellent college, and I have had contact with a
number of their graduates who speak very highly of it.

I am based in Edinburgh and attended the Northern College of Homoeopathic
Medicine at Gateshead. It is very easy to commute from Edinburgh for the
monthly weekend i.e. 1.5 hours by train and I can highly recommend the course.

Well, now if the Society does not recognise Lakelands, or even the Scottish
college, perhaps that says as much about the Society as the colleges.
Certainly I cannot think of any reason why anyone should not want to
'recognise' Lakelands.

It's to do with the core criteria. The idea is that the Society has accredited colleges where the curriculum is agreed upon and standardised between colleges because as I am sure you are aware - some colleges are a lot better than others! Also the Society standardises the criteria for a homeopath to work from. These are the only colleges the Society will accept students for Registration from. Students from other colleges have to pass exams to check that they are up to standard. I have students sitting in on my clinics from various colleges and yes there are definite differences.
