Does any one know of where this Agathis Australis ( Kauri) got its
name as Agathis? Is Kauri the local name? are there other names to it?

It may derive from the greek word for thistle "akanthos" as the mature cones
look a bit like the head of a thistle. - I am only going by the possible
meaning as it appears. Any botanists on the list??
