occult in homeopathy

Yes and no.
By dictionary definition *occult* is "to hide from sight." In
reference to blood, it is usually used to refer to blood that is
present but not in quantities to be seen-- like blood in a stool
sample that can be seen only under a microscope.

In another definition it is "knowledge that demands more than
ordinary perception to understand". In THIS definition, ANY
specialized field of endeavour has its "occult" side-- it is what
separates chefs from cooks, and Ray Charles from a run of the mill
piano player/singer. Those who excel in anything usually do so
through non-ordinary perception-- and that includes that which makes
some homeopaths great and others just by-the-book hacks.
Homeopathy, certainly has all the appearances to the outside world of
being "occult" in the sense of hidden-- The specialized vocabulary,
the special definition of common words, the Latin remedies, the
specialized pharmacy-- all very strange to those outsise of our
circle.

The third definition of "occult" involves "supernatural agencies and
secret knowledge."
Dr. Grimmer was a devout follower of the mystic Christian philosopher
Emmanuel Swedenborg. He studied texts on metaphysics. He was very
interested in "super-sensory perception". He always saw Homeopathy in
a much larger context-- shall we say, as a force of good in an evil
world. And this "metaphysical" view colored his writings-- especially
those where he spoke directly to that view.
He was a user of "the Abrams box"-- a radionic (psychotronic) device
through which he could find remedies for difficult cases-- and these
devices work through extra-sensory perception-- not everyone cam use
them successfully.

Is is important to realize that this world view is NOT necessary to
have to make one a good prescriber.
Homeopathy operates outside the boundaries of religions and such
beliefs. It is a universal law of nature-- and THAT is what Hahnemann
sets out in the Organon.

Does this help?

Thanks Julian!,
for your comprehensive definitions and explanations. I think I wasn't too far off in my assumptions, but see that his definition may include a wide variety of vibrational healing methods, as you say radionics, color remedies, or even in today's society- Rife Frequencies. These all deal with resonance or vibrational wave lengths.

I loved Grimmer's book, but didn't totally understand the meaning he assigned to the word, and really wanted to fully understand his meaning. I appreciate your time in explaining. Personally I feel if more people would do some scientific homework, possibly it would clear up a lot of misunderstandings, and do away with uneducated prejudices such as "Paghat the Ratgirl". Unfortunately, most of these prejudice critiques feel they are too busy to do their own research to prove, or disprove their theories. They simply don't want to be confused with facts.

Thanks again for a great explanation!

Hi Jennifer,

I haven't read Grimmer's book. Can you give some quotes of where he uses
the word "occult"? Just for curiosity.

Thanks,
Shannon

Here's an interesting quote from Hipppocrates

"It is better not to apply any treatment in cases of occult cancer; for if
treated (by surgery), the patients die quickly; but if not treated, they
hold out for a long time." - Hippocrates, (460-370 BC).

Very interesting! Does anyone know what "occult cancer" would have meant in
Hippocrates' day? And if the cancer was "occult" as in hidden, I wonder how
it would have been diagnosed?

Shannon,

This is really an incredible book, and in some ways responsible for helping my husband recover from a tumor through use of Cadmium. To me it's well worth the money.

OK, the 2 chapters on This phraseology are under Philosophy in the Table of Contents, and are titled The Occult Side of Homeopathy Philosophy Page 231, and Occult Causes and Material Effects Page 238.

He states "The aspect of our philosophy that deals of the life side of existence in it's relation to the form side might be termed occult because it operates within the scope of the imponderable forces of nature". "These several bodies are classified by occult students and scientists as, first: the physical or chemical body which is subdivided into a made up of several subdivisions and variations of matter.

We all know that the material world including the body of man is composed roughly of solids, water, gases and ethers. These solids, water and gases, make up the chemical band of nature, and from this division all the forms of mineral, plant, animal, including man, are derived. This is the physical body which corresponds to the crust of the earth.

Intermingling with the physical body of nature and man, is the etheric body, comprising four aspects or divisions, each with it's specific function to perform in the rhythmic march of nature. The etheric region of nature and man, while still physical, is invisible and intangible where our ordinary senses fail us, hence material science has no cognizance of this aspect of nature because no instrument has yet been devised to register the vibrations or energies flowing from this sphere. Likely some of the so-called electronic reactions of Abrams are vibrations from this plane. Only
the trained clairvoyant can see the energies operating on this and other higher planes of life to be mentioned later on; he can see all the processes of life operating on all these plans of nature separately and in unison throughout all the vast intangible causative realms of nature."

He then goes onto discussing Four Subdivisions with specific function of each: 1) Chemical 2)Life 3)Light 4)Reflecting.

I hope this is helpful. I know it's an expensive book, but has so much meat in it that it is well worth while. His approach to different remedies on a polarity level is extremely unusual and unique.

It is a storehouse of information!
Grimmer wrote a lot, but all of his stuff is found scattered in
journals. Dr. Currim pulled it all together in one place.
Grimmer was a student of Kent, and shared the offices with Kent. When
Kent died in 1916, Grimmer took over the practice.
He was in practice through the late 1950s.
The chapters on "cancer" are worth the price of the book.

It's The Collected Works of Arthur Hill Grimmer, M.D. edited by Ahmed N. Currim, Ph.D., M.D.

I got mine thru http://www.minimumprice.com but had to look under Currim's name as author to find it.
