Lesser Known Remedies - Mandragora Officinarum (Mand.)

Post by Ardavan Shahrdar »

Mandragora officinarum
**********************

Mandragora officinarum is a plant remedy with the
common name of Mandrake and belongs to the natural
order of Solanaceae. As you know Stramonium,
Belladonna and Hyoscyamus also belong to this order,
Solanaceae.

Although Mandragora is not a new remedy, it was
reproved in 1995 under supervision of Schmalbach.

Mandragora can be classified under hysterical remedies
because of its prominent changeable mood. Sadness with
weeping alternating with euphoria and mental
hyperactivity is the prominent feature.

MIND - HYSTERIA
MIND - MOOD - alternating
MIND - EUPHORIA - alternating with - sadness

This alternating feature may be also seen in the form
of sleepiness and drowsiness with intense excitement
or excitability.

Like the other members of Solanaceae, there is also a
paranoidal component but not as severe as is present
in Hyos or Stram.

MIND - DELUSIONS - devil - possessed of a devil
MIND - DELUSIONS - possessed; being

Karl-Josef Müller mentions Mandragora as a mental
post-traumatic remedy:

'A person needing Mandragora has usually experienced
something extraordinarily violent, either physically
or mentally. The physical injury, for example an
accident, was so severe that his/her life has been
hanging by a thread and only could be saved by such
medical emergency measures as blood transfusion or
organ transplantation. Mandragora is a remedy for the
ailments arising from such traumas. In children which
have barely survived premature birth or massive
complications, one should think of this remedy,
provided that the symptoms agree.' (From EH)

Mandragora patients ar extremely sensitive to noise.

One of the important points about Mandragora is its
physical accompanying features.

Usually weakness and nausea accompany the hysteria.
One of the peculiar symptoms is that mental symptoms
and esp sadness are prominently ameliorated by profuse
urination!!

MIND - MENTAL SYMPTOMS - acute mental symptoms -

MIND - RESTLESSNESS - weakness - during
MIND - SADNESS - urination - followed by frequent
urination; sadness
BLADDER - URINATION - frequent - sadness; after
