eczema in baby- more info

Mum has just replied to the questions I asked her. I have yet to
work on them

Is there any eczema on his head? Round his temples and up a bit
into his hairline. That's all.
Has he ever had cradlecap? Yes, he still has a patch over his
anterior fontanelle.

Does he seem to be better in the heat or the cold? Mostly better in
the cold but as I said, I think it wakes him in the night when he
gets too cold.

What time does he wake in the night? Any time between 1am and 4am.
Usually nearer to 4 but has been 1.30-2.30 recently for a couple of
nights.

Do you reckon the itch is worse at night? It upsets him more at
night but I'm not sure if he is more itchy. He is itchy in the day
but I think he has more distractions/toys. At night it's just him
and his scratches in the dark!

Do you see him trying to scratch in the day other than when he is
itchy? When he goes to sleep he scratches his forehead, eyelids and
nose. Maybe he is scratchy but I can tell the difference cos he
doesn't usually scratch those parts.

Is the redness better or worse during/after a bath? Better. Have
heard contradictory reports on bathing. Either only bath for a very
short time and as infrequently as poss or, bath for half an hour in
oilatum every night. The half hour one seems to do him more good.
I've tried both.

Is there bilateral symmetry to the eczema? Both cheeks equally
affected. His left arm and left leg are never as bad as his right
side. Arms are always worse than legs.

Is there any smell about him or the eczema? Not now. The rotting
smell was when it was infected and the antibiotics did seem to clear
that.

And is the gungy umbilicus gone? Not really. It's not bad but if I
run a cotton bud round the rim, I get a bit out. White, very thick
and sticky.

Colour of the oozing discharge - is it thin/ thick/sticky and what
is the colour of the crusts? Clear, watery, possibly yellowy. When
it was stuck to his tubifast it was yellow. You can't tell other
than that, it's just like a clear, damp and sticky layer in patches
where he's scratched so much that he has gone through his epidermal
layer.

Are there any vesicles (like blisters that come up and burst? No,
never been like that but sometimes it looks like crazy paving with
red lines through his skin. Almost like mud when it dries out, but
dried skin that has cracked to reveal red under layer of skin.

What is his sleep position? Flat on his back. Arms either up by head
or down by sides.

Have you noticed any food preferences/aversions? No

Does the itch appear worse or better when he is undressed? Seems
worse as he can get to the skin on his tummy, arms and collar bone
that are usually covered over with clothes. He tries to scratch arms
even through clothes but the other two only when undressed.

Finally do you think that the eczema discharges only after
scratching or not? Yes, definitely. After a bad night he will have
scratched more than usual and then it will discharge.

Why Puls Joy? He is not clingy and is not thirstless - just thirsty
for milk rather than water. However Puls is good for allergic
reactions according to Robin Logan's book - The Homeopathic
Treatment of Eczema. It doesn't seem to be in the rep for moist
eczema.

Lycopodium helps.
It is in:-

she had a lot of it while pregnant as it kept down the swelling and
carpal tunnel syndrome that she only gets when pregnant amazingly
when compared to her first pregnancy. She also took a 1M off her own
back in July and I bet she was still breat feeding then. I will
check when I phone!!!

she only gets this when pregnant) - was she taking this in between

fact that they have eczema (which puts them in a frenzy so often) this could
be relevant

possible causation of vaccinations = suppression (actually this is sounding
like sulphur as well)

possible causation of milk

discharges really smelly

restless = ever changing

considering its relationship to all the eruptive childhood diseases

Dear Joy,
How interesting - I didn't know this. Yes she was on the pill
between pregnancies and presumably has gone back on the pill now as
she is back at work. Her original presenting complaint was pain with
digestive problems which reappeared briefly after the baby and went
after she redosed (over dosed!!) herself without consulting me
first, made things worse and I antidoted with Carbo Veg after which
it all got better again.

Thanks Joy,

Sulphur is always at the forefront of thought with skin complaints
but really I look for the < water which is usually there as a
keynote. I gave the Mez initially because of the nature of the
eruption and the vaccination bit but it changed the eruption from
dry to moist.
