Obstacles to Cure

Post by Soroush Ebrahimi »

Hi Colleagues

Can miasms be regarded as Obstacles to Cure. If yes why and how?

Hi Soroush,

I'll be interested to see where this is going. I think that asking "what is
an obstacle?" is a lot like asking "how big is a hill?" -- answer will
depend on context, and reason for asking!

Any chronic disease (which of course have miasm at their root) is by
definition an "obstacle to cure" *for the vital force* ("Yes"). Whether it
is also an obstacle for the prescriber, will depend on the prescriber's
circumstances -- remedies needed, compared with remedies recognized and
available. ("Maybe") Any imperfect understanding is an obstacle to
resolving a problem!

But it appears that Hahnemann's use of the term "obstacle" in the Organon,
referred specifically to obstacles that *aren't* related to remedies given,
things that need to be handled in other ways (lifestyle change, etc.).
("No")

That's my opinion!
:-)

Dear Soroush,
Here I think that you're asking about chronic miasms. Don't you? Because 'miasm' in Hahnemannian terminology is actually a synonym for contagious (infectious) disease.
And about chronic miasms. The concept of chronic miasms helped Hahnemann to find the simillimum accurately. You know that the concept of chronic miasms was derived from epidemic prescription in acute miasms. Epidemic prescription is just an aid for better application of the principle of simillimum. Prescription with consideration of chronic miasms helps us in many cases to find the simillimum. There are some homeopaths that do not consider the concept of miasms but are good prescribers because they have learned to find the simillimum by another analytic approach or their own way of thinking. If it is simillimum, it is!
So if you do not find the simillimum, you can not cure the case and you will have an obstacle in your practice! What Hahnemann says in Aph 3 about obstacles, in my humble opinion, is not about chronic miasms.
Regards,
Ardavan

Dear Ardhavan & Souroush,

This thread is intersting !
Ardhavan , I agree with you when you said miasms are
not what Hn meant as 'Obstacles'. Miasms are a part
and parcel of the disease picture and while we
concentrate on curing it is the totality of which the
miasm/s has a causative or coexistent relationship has
also to be 'cured'. The obstacles will then remain
extraneous to the disease.

Discounting the issue of the unknowing homeopath( who
himself is a deterrent), all others listed by you are
real obstacles.Once we know what cure is(or being
healthy) then we know what disease is and we
automatically know what are the obstacles provided we
have by then known the patient and his life well !

Nothing new, but a new angle.

Regards
Venkat
