Homeopathy and Cystic Fibrosis

Post by Patricia Borro »

Hi all,
I've joined your list a few days ago, and I've been reading your
messages.
I'm no Doctor or Homeopathy practictioner; I'm just a concerned mom of a
soon-to-be 4 yo kid, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis soon after
birth.
I refuse to give him the "traditional" treatment, which consists of tons
of Antibiotics every month, plus many other medicines. This disease
affects, in my son's case, his digestive and respiratory systems mainly.
He needs pancreatic enzyme supplementation, even though he's doing quite
well at a low dose. So I guess he might still have some degree of
pancreatic sufficiency.
When the kid turned 4 months old, I started visiting a very good
Homeopath in our town. We're from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I'm currently trying Curcumin on my son. There's a recent publication
of a study, which says that Curcumin corrects the basic defect on
mutated mice -- they present the same genotype as my son for this
genetic disease. As a matter of fact, after three days on Curcumin, my
kid got constipated as never before. I suspended his pancreatic enzyme
intake, and he had a very good stool: well formed, dark and sinking, as
opposed to those "typical CF ones", which are greasy, abundant, light
colored and floating (due to the maldigested fat).
I'm still in the process of finding the appropriate dosage of Curcumin
for him.
I'm also concerned on side-effects, especially in the long term usage.
I keep on reading about Turmeric and Curcumin extract ingestion.
I would immensely appreciate if someone could share his or her
experience on treating Cystic Fibrosis with Homeopathic treatment, if
such possible.
I would also very much appreciate if someone could give me some hint on
Homeopathic Curcumin -- I've read that it's been tested in Inda, if I
recall well. But I haven't found too much info on the Web about this
topic.
Thank you very much for reading!
Kind regards,
Patricia from Argentina.
PS: I had never tried Homeopathy before my kid's dx wCF -- Now I find it
fascinating indeed.

Hi,
I had no experience with such cases. In the absence of the case history
and details, the following remedies come up for a consideration purely
on a pathological basis.

From GUPTA R. L., Directory of Diseases and Cures in Homoeopathy

"Malabsorption
Malabsorption is poor or disordered absorption of food by the small
intestine. Since there is no or less absorption of fat (causing
steatorrhoea), vitamins (such as B12, folic acid, vitamins A, D, and K),
electrolytes (such as calcium, potassium), iron and amino acids,
malabsorption causes weight loss, diarrhoea with offensive smell,
anaemia, swelling and vitamin deficiency.
Malabsorption is caused by (1) lesions of small intestines; (2) lack of
digestive enzymes or bile salts; (3) surgical operations on the
intestines; (4) presence of organisms in the intestines; (5) atrophy of
the lining of the intestines from duodenum to ileum (i.e. , lining of
the jejunum); (6) chronic dysentery, inflammation of the colon
(colitis); (7) chronic hepatitis, pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis in the
intestines, etc.
Cures :
Agn, Alum, Anac, Ant c, Ars, Asarum, Borax, Calc c, Calc p, Carbo v,
Card m, Caust, Cham, Chel, Chionanth, China, Hep, Iod, Iris, Kali p, Mag
c, Nat c, Nux m, Nux v, Oleand, Phos, Phos ac, Pod, Psori, Puls, Rheum,
Robinia, Sul."
MURPHY R., Homeopathic Remedy Guide:
"Aranea Ixobola:
Modalities
Better from drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. Better from moving
in fresh air. Better from walking and from smoking. Better by getting
up, walking, leaning backwards or lying down and stretching out fully.
Better after expelling gas and going to stool. Worse from rest, cold and
alcohol in the morning.
Mind
Euphoric state, as if he had drunk wine, teasing disposition and the
need to speak, followed by melancholy, weariness of life, irritable. It
has to make a great effort not be impolite or rude. Incapable of mental
concentration inattentive, wants to do nothing. Must make an effort to
set to work. Need to move about, feels better in the fresh air. Inner
disquiet and hastiness, nothing is finished quickly enough for him.
Neurosis from anguish. Mania and depression psychosis. Comments
Hypertrophic cirrhosis without jaundice. Viral hepatitis.
Atony of the gall bladder. Acute inflammation of the gall bladder.
Chronic cholecystitis without the formation of stones. Gallstones.
Fibrocystic disease of the pancreas. Chronic pancreatitis. Cystic
fibrosis of the pancreas. Cirrhosis of the bladder and enlargement of
the spleen."
SCHOLTEN J., Homoeopathy and the Elements:

[stj2 - Chromium metallicum] Affections of pancreas, diabetes. Cystic
fibrosis.

VERMEULEN F., Synoptic Materia Medica 2:

Niccolum-met. + -c. (old abbr.)] G The combination of an effect on the
pancreas, including any obstruction of the pancreatic duct, and the
tough, white mucus indicate that Niccolum could be of use in cystic
fibrosis [mucoviscidosis]

This case needs to be treated by a real professional homeopath. Please
don't meddle with it. With best wishes, V.T.Yekkirala.

Thank you very much, Dr. Yekkirala, for your response.
I know a case of a young kid with Cystic Fibrosis, who is being treated
homeopathically with Aranea Ixobola. It's not my son's case though.

I'm *just* a concerned mama, and I won't prescribe my son myself.
As a matter of fact, I'm right back from our Homeopath's office.

As there is no experience about CF patients being treated with
Homeopathy here in Argentina -- and I haven't found too many
testimonials within CF specific lists either --, I thought that I might
ask within this forum. I do not intend to treat my kid on my own. I am
immensely glad to have met our Homeopath, who is also a MD. And I very,
very much respect him.

Kind regards,

Patricia Borro

Hi Patricia,

I'm so glad you're working with a good homeopath!
Just FWIW, while it's great to hear specific experiences treating specific
diseases, that actually isn't as important as (a) that the homeopath has
solid understanding of prescribing and case management issues *in general*,
and (b) that they have a good understanding of what's "usual" in the disease
in question (symptoms, progression, etc.). If those are in place, then the
homeopath stands a very good chance of being able to help greatly. So don't
be discouraged by not finding specific experiences treating CF, but we would
love to hear what happens as things progress.

Best wishes,
Shannon
