Hi Shannon

I'll have another look at the correspondence courses. The last time I
looked, most of them didn't do correspondence courses for the more advanced
learning unless you were an apprentice in a practice, but that might have
changed now, so I'll have another look and let you know how I get on.
Thanks.

I also look on an "aggravation" as something that comes up after taking a remedy which may be found in the proving of the remedy . e.g. a common agg after taking a constitutional remedy is a "funny cold"- one that might last a matter of hours. Another I have felt in the past is a feeling of heaviness - I remember describing it as feeling as if I had a pillow on my head pushing me down. As Shannon says these sort of things do not last long.

Christine

I would like to answer part of your email, on the subject of potencies:
when I was a very green first yea at homoeopathy college, when all of us,
new students were getting in a total muddle and frustration with potencies,
one of our lecturers gave a handout which I found helpful to start with. As
your experience, learning and confidence grows, you will find you will
"know" which potency to administer. I am detailing this rudimentary
schedule below - it is by no means a rigid rule - more of a guideline:

GUIDELINES TO POTENCY:

DURATION OF THE STATE a Acute (short duration)
b Chronic (long
standing)

INTENSITY OF STATE a Very intense
b Low grade

ENERGY AVAILABLE a High
b Low

MAINTAINING CAUSE a No
b Yes

WEAKEST PART a No
b Yes

WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE a Yes
b No

Mostly a.........high potencies, 200c upwards
Mostly b.........low potencies, 6c up to 30c
Hope this is helpful.

I don't think anyone on the list wouldl look down upon people who are
beginners - it is good to give advice, makes one feel worthy (grin).
Best
Eleana

[snip]
Big questions whose answers come only through experience.
Get together with a good extramural-course and do it. In the UK the
Devon school is excellent. Not sure about BIH there, but I do know
the quality of BIH in the USA-- and it is very good.
If you are going to want to do this in a serious way you MUST be able
to attend clinical training.

The use of 200s or 1Ms is just like any other remedy. It depends upon
the susceptibility of the person it is being given to. If you use
Kent's thinking, you start with a 30 and go up the scale as each
potency becomes "exhausted." The folks I trained with liked using
200s, so that's what I usually have in my first-aid kit.

Hook up with a school.
It's the best way.

Yup! :-)
When I first started on a list, it was very quiet, not much going on.
Someone advised me, "As some questions, that will start things rolling!" I
did, and :-))) haven't quit, I guess.

So yeah, ask questions!

Thanks Eleana, very useful guidelines.

What is meant by 'Maintaining cause' and 'Weakest part'?

Maintaining cause is usually an external set of circumstances which hinder
cure or perpetrate ill health (obstacles to cure); for example, if you have
someone suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and you are trying to cure them
but they live in a damp environment! You will find maintaining causes in
many guises: psychological or physical cruelty, financial constraints,
environmental stresses, relationship dynamics... The patient's own ability
to change, either his/her circumstances or his/her response to those
circumstances which perpetrate the illness, is paramount to cure.

The weakest part is the part of the patient's physiology most affected by
the illness. Most people have a certain susceptibility (not everyone who
suffers from stress has a heart attack, for example).
