mosquito repellant

Hi List

Does anyone have experience or information about the use of remedies such as
Abelmoschus and Staphysagria or any other to prevent mozzie bites? I'm not
looking for something for after at this point

any info appreciated for a desparate client from England living in Oz and
seemingly being a special attraction to these insects even through her
clothes

Nothing to prevent, but mere Calendula ointment smeared on the pesky bites
put me into the stratospheric realms of appreciation from a Pommy friend.

I've had no experience with Abel. or Staph. as a mosquito repellant. Some
members of our group used Nat-s. as a malarial preventative while in India
last summer; no one contracted malaria, that I know of, but I don't know
whether it prevented any mosquito bites. I used the herb Spilanthes and
found it turned me from a mosquito magnet into a walking repellant. Don't
know what the mechanism was, but mosquitoes totally shunned me.

Hi,

I have tried Staph 6x to prevent being bitten by Mozzies and/or sandflies,
and it works reasonably well. I have also tried it for friwnds and family
and it seems to be successful in about 60 % of people.
Mosquitoes and sandflies are a real problem here around dusk at this time of
year and if I have to be outside at that time I usually take soem Staph 6x
beforehand.

However, Jon, your response is what I was after - some experience with the
remedy as prophylactic
I saw it in the rep under Abel m and Staph and just wondered how it got
there

Hi Robyn,

I found out about the use of Staphisagria against mosquitoes from
Vermeulen's Prisma. On page 1270/1 he quotes Trexler who reports
effectivity of Staph 3x in deterring insects.
As I always get bitten, especially by sandflies, I decided to give it a try
and it worked well in 6x, the lowest potency I had available.
I must say though that Staphisagria seems to cover a lot of other symptoms
for me as well and probably 'resonates' well with me.

Hi Robyn,

I actually meant the use of Calendula ointment on bites in a kind of
prophylactic way.
If the intensity of itching in the bites as well as consequent cutaneous
infection through relentless scratching is reduced, this in turn provides a
greater tolerance to getting bitten. An acquired immunity of sorts.

Not what you were asking about, I realize, but my personal preference to
routine prophylaxis against mozzie bites which may involve repeated low
potency dosing from anywhere between September to April here. I like Jon's
observation that Staph works at least on a minimal level against sandfly
bites - especially when there are characteristics that fit the greater case,
this makes a whole lot of sense.

I especially like the idea of using an herb for this sort of thing! Can you
give details -- is Spilanthes one that's available in (for the lazy among
us) capsule form, and did you just follow package directions or something
different?

I used the tincture. Half a dropperful three times a day. Tastes terrible
and makes the tongue tingle like crazy, but very effective. Worked for me
and for my son, who spent four months in West Africa. While others (on
Larium) got malaria, he didn't. And as I said, bugs didn't bug me.
