5 year Diarrhea

Post by Alva Irish »

I have a case that I need help with please:
Client has had water in the lungs for 5 years.
Lungs have been x-rayed, and they are perfectly fine.
Her tongue is cracked and bloody, sore on tip.
Worse hot and spicy things, and salty and sweet, makes tongue hurt.
She has had Diarrhea for 5 years also.
Orange in color. Some foods go through whole.
She had an episode of Acute Diverticulitis last year, hospitalized for 2
weeks.
Lower back pain, also sacrum.
She just had a virtual colonoscopy and a virtual heart calcium test done,
and it showed NO diverticulitis and the colon was perfectly normal!!! Heart
was normal also.
I am perfectly stumped on this,a nd I have no idea where to start.
Please help!
Alva

I would ask more about the diarrhea and the tongue, and I would start with
the rubrics, diarrhea chronic it has 40 plus remedies, and tongue cracked
has about 68 remedies.

Hi Alva,

Have you looked closely at her diet and anything she might be taking?
Anything unusual at all?

Then I'd look at what her state and situation were before this started, and
what was going on when it started, and shortly before? What was and is her
emotional state?

The fact that various tastes and temps hurt her tongue might not be
significant if it's cracked to point of being bloody. How long has that
been going on?

What's a "virtual colonoscopy"? When she was hospitalized for
diverticulitis, did they verify that it *was* diverticulitis? It's hard to
imagine how her colon could have gone from "that bad" to "that good" in that
short a time, while she herself is evidently so unwell... What do you
think, or how does her doctor explain that???

Also, what do you mean by "water in the lungs"? I thought that would be
pneumonia... If x-rays don't show anything, what tells you/her that water
is there -- sensation, symptoms, or ??

I don't know if these are the best rubrics to use (especially in absence of
more of the case), but if I use

MOUTH; CRACKED, fissured; general; tongue
MOUTH; HEMORRHAGE; tongue
MOUTH; PAIN; general; tongue; tip
RECTUM; DIARRHEA; general; chronic
STOOL; LIENTERIC
STOOL; COLOR; reddish

the remedies that run thru all are: Merc., Phos., Rhus-t., Ars., and Lyc is
close too.

What are her mentals, any more about her and her situation?

Best,
Shannon

Hi Shannon, answers as below:

Her diet is normal and balaned, plus she takes vitamins. Her hair analysis
is normal.
and
her
She is worried all the time about ?? Everything ??
All the symptoms have been going on for about 5 years.
It is a new kind of Colonoscopy that is non invasive and 100% accurate.

When she was hospitalized for
Yes, with a cat scan, and she was given heavy duty intravenious antibiotics
for 2 weeks, then 2 months orally at home.

It's hard to
that

I suggested BRY 200C after her acute attack, it must have worked!!!!
Her lungs all of a sudden fill up and she has to cough. She coughs up liquid
and mucous, all clear, no pneumonia. If she does not take heavy duty water
pills, she nearly drowns.

Very worried all the time about everything, does not like where she is
living, wants to move but cannot afford it, feels "stuck" in her situation.
Oh, her right hip is painful and pain shoots downher right leg sometimes.

Hi Alva
Adding to what Shannon has sent, I think you could safely say that her
digestive process is in need of help - hence the undigested matter. I'm sure
there are suggestions eg., enzymes that may help this, however from a
homoeopathic perspective, when I put in rubrics with my chosen weightings, i
came up with Lachesis as remedy I think you should take a look serious look
at. There are others however this one stands out to me. Sul ac has the
characteristic diarrhoeak, but not the tongue.
MOUTH - CRACKED - Tongue fissured - accompanied by - bleeding tongue - Tip
MOUTH - CRACKED - Tongue fissured
MOUTH - CRACKED - Tongue fissured - Tip
MOUTH - PAIN - Tongue - Tip
STOOL - THIN
STOOL - YELLOW - orange
STOOL - UNDIGESTED

Lachesis is represented in all but the pain rubric.

STOOL - YELLOW - orange
aeth.;1 apis;1 bamb-a.;1 chel.;1 cocc.;1 colch.;2 colch.;2 colch.;2 coli.;1
coloc.;1 coloc.;1 convo-s.;1 dios.;1 gels.;1 ip.;1 kali-bi.;1 kola;1 lach.;2
loxo-recl.;1 merc.;1 merc.;1 nat-m.;1 nat-m.;1 nuph.;1 osm.;1 osm.;1 phos.;1
suis-pan.;1 sul-ac.;3 syph.;1

I would also look at the bowel nosodes and see for eg., which one is
complementary to Lach, or whichever rem you decide upon. for lach, these
would be morg.g, mut, and prot.

I think it is also interesting to see how such a similar rubric selection
can lead two homs to different selection of remedies

Re the lungs - fluid control seems to be a theme here - too much in lungs,
too much in bowel - so would look at this angle - a circulation issue
perhaps, which is one of the main spheres of action of Lach.

Dear Alva
You wrote:-

The most worried Rx in the MM is Calc Ars. Just a thought.

From Soul:-
In Arsenicum there is a feeling: "I need people but I cannot trust them -
they may rob me". The patient cannot trust anyone. In Calcium there is a need
for security and support. So we see in Calcarea arsenicosa a person who feels
insecure as well as mistrustful. In Calcarea arsenicosa the need for people
is almost a dependence, and this along with the mistrust, makes him highly
anxious and insecure.

Hhmm, That describes her point of mind pretty well.
Thanks, I'll look into that as well.

Alva
I am not in the US so any suggestions re enzymes would be of no use.
I have to say that I am a little embarrassed that i sent this post to you
and the list without really having enough to go on. If I was doing a case
such as this, i would not approach it in the manner I have sent to you and
the list, even though the outcome may be similar. I would be doing a
thorough mat med search after establishing as best I could the pathophys
process underlying.

Firstly, important to understand what is causing the stool to be orange.
Unless she is taking a medication which can cause this and there are some,
it is often an indication of too much bile in the stool. So, it would be
necessary to investigate why this may be happening - obviously it would be
to do with either the liver and/or gallbladder if it was bile. Has she had a
stool analysis done and what was the result? etc..... etc.....

The tongue and gut and bowel are all part of the gastrointestinal tract so
would be looking for a remedy that has its sphere of action here. I don't
see the need, to bring the mentals into it really - and the lung may be a
separate issue as well, unless it is part of a fluid/circulation problem
that is general.

I would look at the urine, and see if it was dark at all, and would do
physical exam to see if there were tenderness over any particular area to do
with liver and gallbladder - there is so much that needs to be taken into
account.

Once again, my suggestion in previous post was solely based on Rep and that
is only the beginning of a case to give you a ball park of remedies for
consideration.

There is much much more information needed to work on a case such as this,
mainly, I believe to get an idea of the pathological process that is
underlying the problem.
