Hi Venkat,

I like your definition! Even with that, we can do what I would call a
constitutional prescription, in that "disease totality" is taken to be not
e.g. "my headache" (tho of course that *might* be the most appropriate
totality for a given circumstance), but instead "my life, beliefs,
sensitivities, loves, hates, fears, (etc.) -- part of which includes these
headaches with all their particulars". Same process, different boundaries.

I was taught to be open to needing either approach, depending upon where the
richness of symptoms lies -- "Follow the case" -- and that sometimes you'll
need a "constitutional" remedy (that's the term we used, with a distinctly
different meaning from the one Eizayaga gives the term), i.e. an "overall"
remedy; or you might need a remedy "for the headache (or etc.)", and might
need to follow up later with the "constitutional".

How does that sit with you?

I had another idea about this which focuses on the "twisting" sensation
mentioned - Kali carb - < menses, < motion, weepy, headache into eyes and
ears, headache as if something loose in the head and twisting outwards, a
lot of gagging and nausea accompanies sx. Just another thought.

Best, Joy

Dear Shannon,
First with my shortcomings: First by not being as spontaneous as you are to
what has been posted
(partly also because of my non 'English first' status.) Second is my late
starting in Homeo education.

The 'treatment' is finding the remedy that will cure the disease. The 'what
needs to be cured' thing
continues to baffle me as well as a good many. Simply because one eat lot of
sweets all along, the rx
strong in that cannot become a remedy for his headache. But, if he suddenly
ate lot of sweets during
headache, then that becomes a thing to be cured along with the headache.
This is my understanding.

Follow the case: Yes! most certainly, the case will be nothing without the
disease. The 'constitutional'
to me is not the sum total of all of that person. The sum total of suffering
in his own individual way
sounds a near enough term for constitutional. But there exists some overlap
for the local and
the general state when the overall remedy is both local and general. This
occurs rarely and I have
not seen one. The one remdy, one dose and complete cure- that kind of fairy
outcomings are
possible then.

My in laws, in Cochin who take prescription on phone, tols that their
daughter did not get her
her periods and in place a brown leucorrhea was present. Here sepia did it
within twelve hours.
The same girl was given Puls for another acute condition six months ago. And
I thought she was
Puls mostly !

But my hard learned lesson is still: find out what has to be cured.
( I have deliberately left out 'Characteristics' . With them the
constitutional will altogether take a
back seat.)
Enough rants for now.

Regards
Venkat

Indeed. And seeing THAT comes with experience. And some are better

The "presenting complaint" is sometimes NOT what needs to be cured--
but if you don't take care of THAT, then the patient might not come
back.

I know that headaches are difficult but I had a 14 yr old boy in today - nice child, not the angry type, passionate about rugby and is very upset if the team he plays in doesn't win- "i hate defeat". He will cry if beaten at sport. He is having lots of migraines which are causing him a lot of anxiety. He is laid back, sociable and a bit of a joker. I will try to list the modalities etc I noticed that his right leg was constant movement. He bites his nails badly. He is always warm but likes the heat, hates the cold.

They start mainly in the morning - bit not always with him looking at his fingers and realising that they have become blurred.
He then gets white flashing lights and a sensation that he is unstable and he is nervous walking because of the dizziness. He "thinks" he falls to the left side. Speech is slurred when dizzy and slows down. He can't get words out and they come out wrong. He can't bring up a picture of what anyone looks like. He may also get numbness in his finger and his left or right cheek also goes numb. He goes to bed at this point to wake with a bad headache which starts at the occiput and worse around to the front left side. It feels like he has fallen and "smashed my head." It throbs. The headache lasts all day and he can still feel the remains of it the next day. hot bath "I then wrap up in a duvet and stay stillso I can get back to sleep." He lies on the side opposite to the headache but can press his hand against the painful side. (I asked about pressure so not sure how secure it is).

He admits that he may get a headache after playing on his Playstation for an hour and also after using his mobile phone a lot.

Food - desires salt and sour. Dislikes fish*** Drinks a lot of water but denies that he is thirsty. He feels that eating chocolate or cheese before bed can cause a migraine.

He admits that if he is in a mood he will argue a point even if he knows he is wrong until he gets his own way or he won't play the game (with friends)

He gets cold sores out of the blue and will pick at them. Has a little eczema. Gets a bit bunged up in his nose - discharge can be green.

He thinks he can be envious of people, of their material good although he says that money doesn't bother him when he hasn;t got any. He likes to show off- if it is safe

There don't appear to be any family problems

Dreams - "I'm walking up or down a hill and I am falling and am afraid it will hurt when I land but it doesn't."
Dreams when his actions are in slow motion and he can't do anything right. Dreams of his teeth pouring outof his mouth.

Lots of this is typical teenage boy stuff. On my rep Nux appeared the best but I don't feel this is a Nux teenager as he doesn't get angry says Mum. (Normal birth, breast fed, early walking , talking. Mum said he was a whinger until he was 6)

I have not prescribed as yet. I am interested to see any suggestions/thoughts from anyone if you have the time. Thanks

Position in society seems important ??Veratrum. Biting nails and it is in
rubric sensation teeth are loose.
Likes salt.
I can not settle to find rubric of dreams in slow motion but remember it
was a feature of Cadmium represented at a seminar once. Goods Luck, Jean

I started to think about Zincum and Colchicum but I would have a look at
Niccolum.
Some of these points need embellishing and read like he has filled in a
questionnaire - what does "thinks he is envious of people" mean. Why does he
bite his nails, how much chocolate and cheese is he eating? There are a lot
of issues around 'falling' why not explore this further. What does he look
like?

Dear Joy,
Thanks for that. I am going to work on the case today. It reads like a questionnaire because I haven't typed up my notes yet and was just extracting what I thought were relevant bits from my copious notes:-) He thinks he is envious of people because if someone has a nice car which he really likes he makes light of it to them. Also if a "mate" gets loads of attention from the girls and he doesn't . (Jealousy) . Lots of chocolate is a couple of bars. Don't know about the cheese and didn't ask about the nails. ( I bit mine for many years and don't know why!!) He is blond , tall, big feet and hands, calm, good-looking boy with clear, slightly tanned skin, one mole. He was very open with me.

He is fully vaccinated - including BCG and Menningitis and I haven't considered Thuja as he appears too open to me.
