Case VK134
Background
This 55 yr. old Lady, d.o.b. 1-5-46 first met me in Boots during HAW. She is
a student at my evening classes. She phoned yesterday in a panic as she had
had a dream in the night, which mentioned a word beginning with G. During
the day she remembered it as Guillain Barr Syndrome, looked it up and
decided that this was the reason for her continuous mouth ulcers, cold sores
and tingling in her arms in the morning on waking. She had looked this up in
her homeopathic book and found Aconite for this condition and wondered if
she should take it. I looked it up and informed her if this was so,
according to my book she would be paralysed by now.
She came over as nervy, she sighed a lot, stomach rumbled and she also
appeared very hurried with a great anxiety about her health. She is very
loquacious. She presented with steel grey hair, hazel eyes, was freckled but
had a ruddy coloured face despite the make up. She is of average height and
build and wore a lilac fleece, which was not removed, blue tracksuit
bottoms, blue jumper and a loud scarf. She arrived with notes mapped out on
a piece of paper with dates of illnesses.

20th November 2001

Presenting complaints - fatigue, earache for 5 weeks, sore dry eyes, muscle
pain, numbness in the right hand on waking, 3 bad infections in the last 2
years, mouth ulcers, cold sores, disturbed sleep, fatty lipoma cysts, moles,
flat warts, sebaceous cysts on head, cervical spondylitis, and arthritis in
neck!

All her complaints are right sided.

Moles - had a couple removed, which were benign.
Wens - in head

Feels low and tired but has a high colour.

She has had 3 bad viruses on the trot. Picks up infections easily. Says she
is mentally and physically exhaustion. Energy is low especially after
exertion. She lost her voice on May '99, had a cough for weeks in Autumn
2000, lost her hearing and had Tinnitus in Spring 2001. Has had an ache -
not pain - in her right ear since then.

Sleep - not good is waking. Has neck and shoulder problems from whiplash
injury in 1998. She has been to see Jan de Vries and was given
constitutional remedies + osteopathy. She didn't think that either did much
good. She says that she has tight muscles in the shoulders and neck and that
her body is out of alignment. Also says she has arthritis in the neck. The
Chiropractor says that she has cervical spondylitis but she won't go back to
him because he cracks her neck. She is fearful of hospitals because of
treatment of her parents and what she reads in the papers and of
chiropractors and osteopaths because she is afraid that will be too rough
and damage something. The main problem here is a pain that shoots down her
arm related to the whiplash and that when she wakes she can have pins and
needles in her right arm.

Sore eyes - from dry eyes.

Catarrh - post nasal but has been better possibly since she tried the Nit.
Ac. and Mercury for the mouth ulcers.

Enjoys walking in the fresh air.
Sweats a lot during exertion.

Menopause finished 3 years ago. No problems.

Stress - Has lost 3 close family members this year. All smoking related.
Father - heart problems, diabetic, stroke and lost speech
Brother - aneurysm
Mother - emphysema

Food - big aversion to spicy.

"It's one thing after another. I've had a very bad 10 years. My marriage
finished in '91 and went on over a horrendous 5 years. It was back and
forward. I was doing a course - a health related degree. There were hassles
with the family and I was working in-between and landed up with no time for
anything for myself. I had all the traumatic hospital experiences. I won't
take medicines but had to dole it out to the family. I was I the garden and
had a feeling that I had to go back in. I tried to give artificial
respiration to my dad but it was a heart attack and he was already dead. I
am also hospital phobic and want to stay away."

"He (husband) found someone else- but he kept talking about coming back. My
hopes were raised and then dashed. I was devastated. My whole world was
turned upside down. I thought marriage was forever. It makes you lose your
trust and feel betrayed. I would never have put anyone through hat I went
through. I wouldn't do it to someone else. She was a friend. I carried on
regardless and didn't tell people. Once I am committed I throw myself into
it. I won't let people down."

"All my problems started when the marriage broke up. "

"I am outgoing, talkative, trustworthy, reliable and honest. Like you asked
in class if something happens I will remember my past grievances."

"I put up with a lot. I bend over backwards for people and then feel
disappointed when I am let down."

Childhood. - "My father was authoritarian. I was not allowed to stay on at
school because as soon as I could I had to earn my own living. I got work as
a telephonist. I got married at 22 and it was OK for 25 years. No he was not
my first boyfriend. My Mother used to make promises, which were not kept. We
were left on our own a lot, me and my brother. We get on fine."

"I don't believe in flattering people. You should say what you mean."

"My first birth was with forceps and vacuum extraction. I had loads of X
rays. It was a very painful birth. I breast-fed the children.

Fears - Hospitals - going in as too many things go wrong. Public
speaking.*** "My mind goes blank. I used to be frightened of thunderstorms
but not now."

"My stress has gone into my shoulders"
Whooping cough - age 6

Jealousy- none
Anger = "I don't lose my temper but feel strongly about injustice. I turn
off the news because I can't do anything about it. Despondent about world
affairs. Listens to classical music if depressed.

No thirst.

Happy - hobbies are sport, fell walking, charity work, "I f I was still
married I would be doing charity work.

Company or on own.

Urination - same days a lot and others not.

Sleep - not good. Wakes up.

Actually would like a job but won't do one, which involves public speaking.

EFT = forgets what is going to say in public speaking and although I fear my
mind will go blank. Although self-conscious.

Family Medical History
Heart, emphysema, diabetes, colostomy, aneurysm in brain, haemorrhage,
gangrene and HBP

Analysis
I repped the following

Top Rx were Ars (9)Nat Mur, (9) Sulphur (9) , Nux,(8) Phos Ac (7)Bell
(7)Bry(7) Caust( 7)Gels (7)Puls(7) Rhus(7 )Sil(7) (7) Carc(6)

Briefly Ars is a cold Rx and has more fears. Nat Mur- she is too open loves
the countryside, neither here or there about salt IMO it's all wrong
Sulphur - well she is hot but I don;t see this Rx. Nux - no way in that
although she does a lot of moaning it is not loud enough to be Nux. Phos
Ac - not weary enough Bell -don't see it. Bry - I thought of this by she has
never gone on about money and doesn't even have a job. Caust. -Yes as I see
a gradually paralysis due to the grief and mortification + this big
injustice thing. Gels. - possibility for the fear of public speaking the
neuritis, ailments from grief and all the viruses. Puls.- she lives on own
and is used to it.
She bends over backwards for people and has a big anxiety about her health.
In her childhood she had an authoritarian father. There is a lot of grief
here from the betrayal of her husband. All her aliments started on the break
up of the marriage. With the family history of heart and diabetes I think it
is worth starting on Carc. and seeing what it brings up. She is a hot person
and has a high colour in her cheeks which in my mind discounts the first few
remedies that appeared in my rep. She says on the occasions that her BP has
been taken it is fine.

There didn't seem to be a lot of reaction to the Carc. She was a bit more
emotional one day and had a cry.

Fatigue - not changed

Earache - there has been a whooshing noise on and off and an ache like a
nag. Last week it was constant and intense but appears to have eased.

Dry eyes - no difference - this started after the use if cortisone around
her eyes.

Muscle pains - worse. She has seen a chiropractor and is seeing an osteopath
for a free initial assessment.

Numbness in right hand on waking - gone.

Ulcers and cold sores - She has another cold sore on her chin but no mouth
ulcers.

Sleep - waking early about 4-5 and can't get back to sleep.

Arthritis - in shoulder is worse. Chiropractor wondered if it could be the
start of a frozen shoulder. She has tight muscles and a rigid spine.

She has had hassle with a tiler who won't take all the rubbish away. She
feels "let down" by him and in fact about everything in life. She always
feels insecure about the future.

She spent a lot of time talking about what others say about her. We did EFT
on "Although I don't know where I am going. and the SUD went from 10 to 3 in
a couple of rounds.

She needs to know how and why everything works - like EFT and any remedy.
(Sulphur??)

"I am carrying the tension on my back".

"I am frustrated and can't deal with it. I can tell everyone else how to
deal with it but not me."

Analysis
Disappointing lack of reaction to the Carc. However the numbness has gone
and it must have dne a little if she was more emotional for a short time.
I was looking at both Causticum and Rhus Tox. She is into causes and has
always done voluntary work until recently. Money does not seem to be an
issue, which I would expect with a Bryonia case. Found in Relationships of
remedies that Rhus follows Causticum so have decided to give this first and
see if there is a reaction. Her aches are better the warmth in the bath and
she has to move a lot in better to be comfortable. Her joints creak.
Everything started after the problems with her ex husband.

Prescription
Causticum 200 -split + some verbascum oil to put in the ears if the ache is
bad

She looks a bit bloated around the face. Cheeks flushed . She says that
someone reckoned it was the start of rosacea. Her BP is always OK or on the
low side of average. She is always warm rather than chilly. There was a
smell about her today - maybe cooking , maybe body odour.

She started with yet another chest infection on 14th with coughing up of
green phlegm. "Totally different than last time when phlegm was white." She
took Manuka in drinks and it was better for a day and then the next day tick
green phlegm which was blood tinged followed by white phlegm. She has still
got a bit of a cough although I didn't notice it and started sneezing.

She is bothered about being sneezed on and when travelling on the train
started dreading people sneezing.

No change in fatigue, earache. Dry eyes or muscle pains. The latter were
worse with the infection but better now.

The earache is an intermittent sudden ache, which goes quickly in right ear.
Happens every couple of minutes. Tried EFT - did nothing for it.

There is a sore spot on her head, which has moved. A bit tender.

Sleep - better.

Prefers to live lakes and mountains.

Too trusting and too honest. Long discussion about how because of this she
couldn't get attendance allowance for Father, and has had and won court
battles. She tried to get a grant for her degree and couldn't get what she
wanted although tribunals all agreed with her. But the red tape stopped it.

Just wants a quiet life. Stress from fighting battles. Always hassle over
everything.

She sounds nervy and says everything has to be written down as her mind goes
blank easily.

What is bothering her most is the ear and the fact that she keeps getting
viruses.

Analysis

I don't think anything has moved except maybe the green phlegm was bringing
toxins up but can't think of a better remedy so am going to go up on
potency. Also I forgot to give her the Verbascum oil so have done so this
time.

Prescription

Causticum 1M - night and morning. (Vebascum oil)

Is there anyone with a case they would like to present online for March and
beyond? It can either be a case they are having trouble with and would like
some help or even a cured case which has perhaps been unusual in some way or
a case that affirms our knowledge - even the prescribing of polychrests
makes for good reading.

Thanks Rosemary and Tanya. Yes perhaps doing it less often or more
spontaneously is a good idea. At the moment I don't have time to read many
of the posts in this group, and the formality of collating the written cases
for the archive takes quite a bit of time. I am also having to find time now
to write a book so I might not be able to contribute so much.

Hopefully we are going to have a number of 'cured' cases to guess the remedy
coming up soon. So am looking forward to that.

A boy age 13years old diagnosed as a case of obsessive compulsive
Disorder, was already under a psychiatric treatment. It was interesting to
see that a single skin eruption i.e. alopecia aerata suppressed by
allopathic ointment lead to this mental state.
This complain started gradually, after he saw one movie .The story
of this movie was, that a man killed his mother for a sake of a women. This
affected him immensely, even sad stories movies, like kate-patang [old
movie] disturbed him. He constantly feared some bad thing would happen. He
blabbered a name of god like Vishnu, ganpati to avoid this negative
thoughts. Even thinking of ravan, bad women, evil, a failure girl he would
think that bad will happen to him and his family.Ther was total confusion of
this negative and positive thoughts. He wanted to control this negative
thoughts by thinking of positive thoughts, but he could not do so. was
restless in his mind,was going out of home and coming in,talking about a
same subject,thus troubling other people.
Thro'out the case he begged I won't to get rid of this negative
thoughts, as this will make me a bad man. But I don't want to be so. I will
do anything for my parents or even for you. I will give my heart to you. As
a child he was obstinate by nature.His talk was childish to his age. Due to
this state he lagged behind in his studies and had to miss his school.

cases one has to give importance to unmodified original picture of a
person,impotance also has to be given to physical general symptoms of a
person.
Dr. Vijaykar has rightly said, Treat Man in Disease not Disease in
Man.So when we take a feeling of a person we treat him partially, one has to
give importance to basic nature of a person.Whan we ask a person how he
feels that situation,we get diseased symptoms example:alone, deserted,
neglected…..,This feelings can change in every different situation.But when
we ask a person how he reacted to a situation? We get his basic nature i.e.
undiseased state Man. Example,mildness,timidity,Defiant,courageous.This is
innate in a person,a involuntary reaction to a situation,That is a basic
nature.
Even Dr.Kent and Bonneinhausen have included this undiseased
nature in there repertory.
So, in this case I took his basic nature to find the similimum.The
remedy, which we will prescribe, will also cover his diseased state.

with another important rubric and finally one constutional remedy was found

After the remedy, not only patient was better, but his alopecia aerata which
was suppressed reappear.he developed skin eruption which later subsided of
its own according to Dr. Vijaykar's chart of suppression this case lies in
5th layer i.e.Impariment of neuro-endocrine system, but after right genetic
constitutional similimum his toxins descended down to 3rd layer i.e.
mesoderm layer[alopecia aerata] to 1st layer i.e. ectoderm[skin eruption]
and finally to permanent health.
In a follow-up patient say I feel funny about the behaviour, which
previously I use to do. I am not a child any more.His perfomance in a school
imroved to 85%.

Conclusion
w One-sided disease - importance has to be given to original unmodified
picture of the patient.
w Herring's law comes true in every case if you take basic nature with its
innate qualities.
