while searching for a special article I stumbled upon the following:

In 1854, Abraham Lincoln was retained to prepare a state legislative
proposal to
charter a homeopathic medical college in Chicago. This was a complex
task in
view of the deep-seated animosity between allopathic or orthodox medical
practitioners and irregular healers. Homeopathy was regarded as a cult
by the
nascent American Medical Association. In addition, the poor reputation
of
medical education in the United States in general, further complicated
the
project. Lincoln and influential individuals in Illinois lobbied
legislators and
succeeded in securing the charter. Subsequently, the Hahnemann
Homeopathic
Medical College accepted its first class in 1860 and with its successors
remained in existence for almost sixty-five years.

JW, in your 'Faces of homeopathy' I've found only one reference to Abe
Lincoln (p.57: only his assassination was mentioned).

Could you elaborate a little bit further about the charter or point me
to the relevant pages in your book?

was picked as a lawyer for the push to get the charter.
I think I have a hard copy of it, but I have no idea which pile it is
in. I have not filed a bunch of stuff out of sheer laziness and lack
of motivation to actually attack the pile. Maybe this will get me
moving on it...
I didn't put anything in my book about it, because the article was
done after the book was printed. Having seen the article, I doubt it
would change anything I said in the book. It is one more interesting
detail about "famous folks" but has little importance in the overall
history...

I've just found a few articles about the semantic difference between
Curentur and Curantur-- and I'll get them up on my web site soon.

Working on a large chart (A2 size / 18x 20) which I started back in
1984-- of who taught who. Lots of fun.
